Yet another Multi Class question

So I just finished NW and starting SoU with my imported character from the original game. He's a Fighter 12 lvl / Weapon Master 4th lvl. His weapon of choice is the double blade (Blade of Corellon). My ultimate goal is for him to become a Warrior-Mage. So I intend to have him level up at some point to become sorceror.

Here are the questions:

1) as of now Soren Khan is a 16th level character - if I level up next time to sorceror lvl 1 - when I reach Sorc lvl 5 (thus overall 21st lvl) will I become epic ? If so in which of the 3 classes ? Or will the bonuses apply to all 3 ??

2) since I want him to be able to switch from his blade to his spells in a moment - I mean he will have to wear armor (now have a nice chain mail +4 / immunity to mind spells - 10% spell failure) and so what's the acceptable margin of error for combat spell casting ?

Thx

Hey

As far as rules are concerned, any Character totalling 21 class level (i.e character level 21+) is considered an epic character.

I am not sure on how the PnP rules are enforced in the computer game, but logically, an Epic Sorcerer will be a 21+ level Sorcerer. For Multiclass, I don't have a clue...

About the acceptable margin, I'd say that 0% arcane failure is an obvious first choice, but personnaly, I'd go as far as 15%. The thing is: always have a backup plan is your spell fails...

Hope this helps

Arachnol

PS: You won't have too much fun with your 16th level character in SoU, it's meant for a 1st level char...

Well - in regards of the epic question.

What I've noticed and tested shortly - it dose seem as the game equals epic character with epic classes.

I did a test some time ago, where I leveled a rogue/assassin 10/11 and modified his statistics via the console.
I found I was able to take epic rogue feats, eventhough the character wasn't an epic rogue, but only an epic "character". To be an epic rogue one would have to have 21 levels in rogue. (as I understand, and as Arachnol also stated). So basically it would be possible to be an epic character withouth being an epic "class" (for instance rogue)

So, as answer to the original posters question, any character above level 20 is epic, however I don't think the game differentiates between epic characters (level 20+) and epic classes (level 20+ in a class) - so multiclass characters are as epic as single class characters at the same class-level.
This conclusion is also supported by the description of the epic rules in the manual. (p. 9 in my version of the HotU manual).

Hmm - this is rather confusing, but I don't know if I could explain it better, without filling up more space :D

As for the second - as I've not played a fighter/arcane caster in NwN, this will be based on my thoughts instead of practice.
Basically - it depends on how much spellcasting you will do compared to the amount of fighting.
More focus on fighting - use armour and live with failure percentage. More focus on spellcasting - use robes and have no failure percentage.

Epics

Hi

Thanks Xandax for your consistency in answers...

You seem a little puzzled by your own explanation lol...

Oh well, to make it simple:

Epic (21+ level) characters are eligible for epic feats.

Hence, the Epic Shapeshifter requirements for Outsider Shape are

- Wild Shape (Druid level 5+)
- 21 total levels (you can be for instance a Druid5/Fighter16 and take The Outsider Shape feat at 21st level (assuming you also have WIS 25))

So basically, you become epic whenever you reach 21st level.

Hope that was clear enough.

We Europeans sometimes have trouble going straight to the point, right Xandax? ;)

2x yep :D

Well - the subject is rather confusing due to the concept of character levels vs. class levels. But the fun doesn't start untill we draw spell-levels into the equation :D
That is why I often make rather lengthy explanations, for better or worse :D
