A game isnt fun for me personally if I dont follow a story and now its getting confusing. Can someone tell me whats going on w/ the Republic, Sith and Mandalorians....? Thanks. Please dont spoil what happens but just tell me whats going on....Im on Manaan if that helps.

Most of the story will be given through convesations with NPCs and your henchmen. I'm affraid to mention to much because it would spoil you somewhat, but here is what can be said safely in my oppinion.

A very rough overview of the storyline up to the gamestart would be:

Mandalonians invaded Republic space and killed and maimed.
Jedies joined the Republic fleet against the will of the Jedi Council. (Including Revan and Malak).
Revan kicked the Mandalonians out and was given command of the fleet.
He then ventured into uncharted space, and came back with a much larger fleet and started a conquest.

Revan and Malak turned to the Dark Side and becomed "Dark Lord and apprentice" of the Sith. (There is much information about the Sith's place in the star wars universe, check out google for such info).

When the Jedi wanted to remove Revan, Malak turned on him (wanting to be the Dark Lord) and fired towards Revan's ship's command brigde, all but killing Revan.

Malak then took head of the Sith forces and continued the conquest of Republic space.

That is in rough terms what happens up to the game-start.
I'll not spoil you much more then this, unless you ask for specific spoilers, and plot-questions

Didnt the mandelorians invade just outside republic space, and wasnt that the reason the republic didnt want to intervine in the beginning?

Probably some spoilers ahead, trying to keep it to a minimum.

20 years before the mandalorians attacked the republic had just finished its war with Exar Kuun.
Because of this the republic was weak.
They attacked Outer Rim worlds first.
The republic wasn't eager for another war while they were still recovering from the war with Exan Kuun.
When the Mandalorians moved onto the core worlds the republic fought.
They asked the Jedi for help, but they didn't give it. They saw something dark lurking out there, something beyond the immediate threat.

However, Revan and his apprentice (and best friend) Malak led several jedi to aid the republic. At this point Revan assumed command of the fleet.
Revan was a superb tactician and kicked them out.
Revan and Malak were hailed as Heroes of the Republic.

They then disappeared for sometime.
They came back, and completly unexpectadly, turned on the republic and began a war of conquest.

The Jedi did help this time. The Jedi set a trap for Revan. Using Bastila's battle meditation they boarded Revan's flagship in an attempt to capture Revan, if possible. You'll have see the first few visions so will know that Revan wasn't about to give up without a fight.
Then after their lightsabers were raised you can see blaster fire from Malak's ship in the background.
Malak was firing on the Bridge of Revan's flagship in an effort to eliminate all his enemies in one fell swoop. Eliminate many jedi, including Bastila, who has already mastered the art of battle meditation, and also Revan, his Sith master, making Malak the new Lord of the Sith.
Since Bastila is one of your party members, you know that Malak failed.

Malak then continues the Sith's war of conquest.

5 years later, you wake up from your bunk on the Endar spire.

And there is the story on the Ancient Builders, the ones who created the starmaps and the starforge. This story unfolds as you talk with the droid on Dantooine, the holocron on Yashyyk, the historian of the Sandpeople and the computers on the Unknow planet.

I found the conversation with the Sandpeople historian worthwhile, especially with HK47 as translator. But save your game if you plan to keep the dragon pearl as lightsaber upgrade.

or you could open one of the cases, or get Hk to start a fight and kill all the sand people, take their gaffis and then you get the pearl back (off chieftain's remains), the moisture vapourators (although usless) back and the Storyteller's gaffi, load of EXP and NO DS points . Not to mention you can make a load of cash.

Follow the light path, then kill them all for no DS points.....mmmm....interesting!

just because the engine lacks the ability to recognize such an act of cruelty and greed as evil, doesn't mean, that it would not lure you towards the dark side anyways...
