Where can I find a Grandmasters lockpick?

Post by Dark Master »

The guy in Balmora that sells them won't sell one to me because of my rank in the thieves guild, and I need it to unlock the chests for to advance in both the Ald-Ruhn and Balmora guilds, I've completed Sadrith Mora. I've got a master's lockpick, but it won't unlock the level 75 locks, so I'm totally at a loss as to how to continue through the guild.

Any help is appriciated.

Buy a spell. I know I've seen level 80 unlock spells out there. If you haven't got the magicka to cast it, look instead for an unlock spell scroll. I think there's a degree of random distribution to these goods, so I can't recommend a specific location.

You can find Grandmasters lockpicks at the Lucky Lockup Cornerclub in Balmora. Enter it through the upper door. In the room to your left is an NPC which provides training. On a table near the NPC lie one or two grandmasters lockpicks. The easiest way to get them is by using telekinesis. You don't even have to enter that room....

hum...but I'm not sure if there are grandmasters lockpicks or only masters lockpicks...

Thank you both, I'll visit the lucky lockup now.

there are DOZENS of grandmaster lockpicks and probes along the rivers in slostheim, the smugglers you find almost always have some. they also hvae ebony maces sometimes, so they are nice kills. fable was right, I say enchant some amulet to 100 unlock and call it 'ondusis greater key' and raid divath fyr's place... but then there is a thrill to opening stuff by hand if you are a theif...

Exactly. Because of that I have a mod running which kicks all of these high-level lockpick-spells out of the game...

Not sure if you know this or not, but if you complete the thieves guild string of quests, you obtain a skeleton key which can open any door or chest anywhere instantly.

Yeah, but I couldn't get the locks open to advance in the thieves guild, but I've done it now, and have the skeleton key, thanks to all who offered help.

does the skelly key have a limited no of uses?
Mag: Don't remember much at all of last night do you?
Me: put simply.... No :D
Mag: From what I put together of your late night drunken ramblings? Vodka, 3 girls, and then we played tic-tac-toe and slapped each other around.

Yeah, and by the time you've reached the top of the thieves' guild, you don't even NEED the skelly key, since you can open a 100 lock with a journeyman's lockpick anyhow! Now why could you have gotten that earlier?

That isn't necessarilly true, it depends on your skill, and that sure as hell don't raise to 99 by simply doing the guild missions =P

yes, but dont you need your skills pretty darn high to advance? its a requirement, 'need 1 skill at 70 and 3 at 40' or something like that... and they need to be skills that are favorites of the theives guild, and you would WANT a pretty high security in theives guild wouldnt you? i wouldnt feel right being the head of the theives and not being able to open a lock.

I usually use sneak as my highest thieves' guild skill. It's so easy to increase once you get to about 40 anyway... just get yourself in a nice little corner somewhere, get your sneak icon on, and go clean up the house or something. At least, that's what I do. Do YOU go clean the house? lol
