Super Alchemy

So my current (all-time favorite) character is a cunning wood elf assassin that dabbles in alchemy, but although I'm having fun playing around and creating weird potions, they're not really worth the bother of carrying around. I've juiced up my intelligence to about 600-700 hundred a few times using netch hide/bloat potions, but is that the best way?
My equipment is half master/half grandmaster. My alchemy skill is currently only around 50...
I've read several places of people creating insane potions that last for weeks, and fortify their intellgence to several hundred thousand. How is that done? Is it just a matter of creating hundreds of fortify intelligence potions, and then making whatever fun potions you want?
What are the most-bang-for-the-buck potion recipes?
The best ingredients?
How effective is the "fortify attack" effect created by ghoul hearts & a couple of others?

It would be nice to have a well-established alchemy thread that lets us share hints, recipes & experiences from different potions... I feel it's a topic that's often touched upon, but rarely really discussed.

I think they key to those insane potions you were talking about is the method used for making said fortify intelligence potions. The key is that you have to drink the potion every time you make one. By doing this, your fortify intel potions get stronger and stronger every creation.

Ex:

Make fortify intel poition
Drink fortify intel poition
Make fortify intel poition
Drink fortify intel poition
Make fortify intel poition....
[repeat several times until intel is satisfactorily high (I stop around 10 million]
Make whatever potion you want, super strong.

2 warnings go with that. 1) it makes the game no fun. 2) some of those potions can be very dangerous to yourself, esp if you accidentally drink one with negative effects. But even something like making your 'jump' super high could kill you.

Oh, and here's an easy way to get your alchemy skill up to 100 once you've picked up whatever tools you want (I suggest stealing from the Balmora Alchemist, White Haven or the mages guild tower in Caldera). Take a few hundred septims to Sadrith Mora, Wolverine Hall. In the temple place inside, there should be a guy in a red robe that sells alchemy ingredients. Get large stacks of Saltrice, Chokeweed and Marshmerrow, with twice as much slatrice as Chokeweed+Marshmerrow. Saltrice+other ingredient makes fortify fatigue and health potions, for about 2 septims per experiment. (To make buying faster, sell the ingredients back to him and they will double in quantity I usually buy in stacks of 320 and 640.) Make potions really fast by loading the large stacks. Make sure to sleep if you level.

But the Scroll of Icarian Flight was such a good idea! Just had a few minor drawbacks, is all...

Aaah, I was hoping it wasn't going to be that tedious... I did the whole make/drink/make/drink schpiel, but it took a looong time just to get to a few hundred. Does it multiply eventually, or do you you spend a couple of hours doing it? ;)
Good call with the restore health/fatigue potions though, I'll be sure to try it out & gain some experience...

About the jump spell though.. How can you get to create a jump-potion? Fortify agility? There's no way to fortify your acrobatics skill though right, besides the 3 scrolls you find on tamriel? I assume there's no way you can change a scroll into a reusable spell?

PS: I've said it before & I'll say it again. A quick 'n easy constant effect item with slowfall 1 pt on self will forever stop all damage from a fall, even if you happen to be in orbit when you decide to fall down... ;)

I couldn't remember what magical effects had pissed me off, but there were some that I definitely didn't like. I guess you're right about jumping though.

It didn't take too terribly long to fortify my intelligence, but I may have had a higher starting alchemy level. In fact, I'd try getting to 100 before making 'uber'-potions. But it shouldn't take more than 20 drink/make applications to get pretty high. Alchemy, IMO, is the easiest skill to master. Second quickest would be weapons and third acrobatics. Athletics, armorer security and definitely enchant probably being the slowest.

You can make a fortify skill spell, and just have it be acrobatics. I'd attach a slowfall in there too, though. All I know is my character right now has crazy acrobatics, and everywhere she jumps, she gets hurt. Good thing I have CE restore health...

But beornica, how do you do that? I am really interested in finding out what ingredients you need to fortify skills (or how to create CE items that fortify skills). Super acrobatics would be amazing!

On another note, I did get to create some über potions, and it didn't take too long. The problem however is that it is definitely super super super cheesy. With an intelligence of about 500,000 I was able to create a few insane 'fortify attack/fortify strength' potions that were so boring to play with that I ended up sleeping for a month just to get rid of it! It was so strong that every time I fired my bow I'd break it... :(
Not only is that cheesy, but that high an intelligence lets you create potions that can earn you millions if you choose to sell them, and you get an unlimited amount of magicka. With little effort you can have millions of points in every stat, and eternal amounts of health, fatigue & magicka... That alone took some of the fun of alchemy away from me, but I'll have to limit myself to semi-über stuff... :)

Except of course spell absorbtion, reflect and fortify acrobatics potions...
