Where is a good place to get experience?

Hi, everyone! I recently purchased BG2 and am currently in Chapter 3 doing miscellaneous quests in the Bridge district. I haven't seen Bodhi yet, though...that's my next mission. Anyhow, I was wondering where would be a good place to do some battle in order to test out some new spells/weapons and also get some experience?

Is there any place in the game where I can go to just BATTLE instead of doing quests? I remember in BG1 you could go a little north of Candlekeep and fight those green beetle-like monsters that popped out of the ground. They gave good exp and you could sell their body carapace for a decent profit.

Anyone know of a place where monsters spawn constantly? I'm noticing in BG2 that there are no wilderness area...and I can only move from town to town so to speak.

Someone point this warrior to battle! :)

Thanks much in advance!

Faerun is a good place to do battle :)
No but there are battles everywhere really. There is one place called the guarded compound. It is in the temple district. Go there to test your fighters.

From my experience the second level of the dungeon in Windspear is good as a training ground. There are several places monsters respawn if you have left Windspear Hills and returned (the area itself, not only the dungeon). I do not know for sure if it is true even after you've dealt with the Dragon, but until that (at least so it have been for me) there are refilling of some rooms with monsters adjusted to your level. So, first time the room with the Chapel key had only a shadow or two inside, the next time there were about ten of them of different sizes and a couple of greater wolfweres on top. Other places had orcs replaced by orogs etc. I can not say it was easy, at least for wolfweres' part ;) Adjustment, IMHO, might even outpace somehow the development level of the party.

There are many ways to level up your pc faster( getting exp.-points). Try this: Cut down your group from 6 to 5, or 4. Rest outside the Temple ruin entance but don’t try on the crytal light...

Make sure you killed all the trolls in the druid grove. Make your game in the highest difficulty for tougher monsters.

Or just go out in Athkatla at night. You will face some vampires there. :)

gate in a couple of pit fiends
sometimes, protection against evil is not needed cos the pit fiends die even before they materialise

ie u can whack them when the gate animation is playing

Thanks for the tips, everyone! Between all this advice, I've found plenty of ways to get exp now, so whenever the questing gets boring, or I want to test out some new gear or spells, I can just summon in a bone golem or drow warrior, or go camp in a dangerous place.

I'm still a little scared to summon up a demon yet, but soon! :)

I can't believe how active the BG forums are, and everyone is so helpful, too.

Thanks!

If you want a constant spawn, here is a tip: the lower floor of the Sewers. You will find a "screaming statue" with a trapped treasure there. Everytime you click the statue (not the treasure) with the '?' mouse cursor, several sword spiders and a Wandering Horror will be spawn. Indefinitely. Do not forget to have active Remove Fear spell when clicking the statue. Also, prepare some Cure Poison spells. One fight = 9000 or so XP. No treasure.
