Hello people!

Reading the manual, I can not detect any differences between dexterity levels 19 and 20. The same goes for levels 21,22 and 23 and for levels 24 and 25.

Is it useless to have dex. levels 20,22,23 or 25?

The reason I'm asking is that the Ninja kit in The Darkest Day combined with the elven race can get you a very high dex..

The only thing I can think that would be an advantage maybe in getting higher thieving skills to start off with. The book only gives it up to 19 dex. Maybe the adjustments will get higher if you have a higher Dex.

Higher dexterity also adds to your AC. Can't say I've checked to see if there's an appreciable AC difference between DEX 18 and 21, though.

From the BG2 manual, page 225.

DEX 18 AC Adj -4 Miss ATT adj +2
DEX 19 AC Adj -4 Miss ATT adj +3
DEX 20 AC Adj -4 Miss ATT adj +3
DEX 21 AC Adj -5 Miss ATT adj +4
DEX 22 AC Adj -5 Miss ATT adj +4
DEX 23 AC Adj -5 Miss ATT adj +4
DEX 24 AC Adj -6 Miss ATT adj +5
DEX 25 AC Adj -6 Miss ATT adj +5

AC Adj = subtracts that number from your AC.
ATT Adj = adds that number to attack adjustments.
Hope that helps...

Yes, KemsaiRyu has just illustrated my point. I can see no difference between the levels I mentioned. So I wondered if there might be other effects resulting from having a high dexterity apart from the two effects listed in the table.

The only other thing that Dexterity does is give you bonus Thief skills.

DP - PP - OL - FT - MS - HS - DI - ST
18 - 10 - 15 - 05 - 10 - 10 - 00 - 05
19 - 15 - 20 - 10 - 15 - 15 - 00 - 10
20 - 20 - 25 - 15 - 18 - 18 - 00 - 15
21 - 25 - 30 - 20 - 20 - 20 - 00 - 20
22 - 30 - 35 - 25 - 23 - 23 - 00 - 25
23 - 35 - 40 - 30 - 25 - 25 - 00 - 30
24 - 40 - 45 - 35 - 30 - 30 - 00 - 35
25 - 45 - 50 - 40 - 35 - 35 - 00 - 40

DP: Dexterity Point
PP: Pick Pockets
OL: Open Locks
FT: Find Traps
MS: Move Silently
HS: Hide in Shadows
DI: Detect Illusion
ST: Set Trap

Sorry about the layout.

Thank you Sabre! I quickly got my manual to see if I could have read it myself in the friggin' thing but no, the table is there and I did not see it but it only goes to dex. level 19 (as mentioned before by the One that Fell). So thank you for giving the data for the higher levels.

So we can conclude that, only for thieves, there is a difference between levels 19 and 20 for example. Still the differences between some higher levels are too small to my liking. I half expected some kind of combat bonus apart from lower AC.. Something like a speed factor or THAC0 bonus..

In P&P attacks per round and speed factor, are also modified, that may fill in the gaps. The developers probably didn't want to add in those mods sort of like the mods for high wisdom against mind attacks. Just a little morsel of Info to chew on.

There are plenty of gaps in the PnP tables as well. AD&D rules just aren't very aesthetically pleasing...

Basic D&D and D&D3, on the other hand, have smooth tables.
