I've got a pickle.
My main character is a swashbuckler.
He is weilding Celestial Fury and the Tuigan bow.
He is great with CF and tremendius, I mean realy great with the bow.(thanx to the bracelets of archery from BG1

)
I want to maximize his melee strength by having him duel weild CF with the sword you get from the lich in the gate district.(sunray or something like that)
My question is should I drop the bow for the second weapon? or should I keep him a great archer and only good at melee?

You may already know this but can't you do both? One of the members of my party is a half-orc berserker and he uses two melee weapons but when I want to use a bow I just go into my inventory and switch it up...
Daystar is a sweet sword though...

I know you can do both, but you can't alternate easely enough for it to become a good solution.

@elusive_knight,
In the pub (City Gates), the Crooked Crane, there is a secret door. It is behind this door.
This particular Liche is notorious because of the number of beginner parties and players who found their very first secret/hidden door and got seriously spanked. - Curdis

I usually go in early with a thief, grab the sword and then run out again (the lich won't follow). Then I go back much later and whack'im good. Daystar is probably my favourite sword in the whole game.

I got ToB last summer. I think Daystar is a decent weapon even in that game.

There are too many ways to easily kill lichs so no need to grab and run. Get that throwing axe that kills undead(you can buy/steal it in copper cornet). Great weapon, can get it super early, can be used as a ranged weapon(gotta love throwing axes).
Its undead slaying abilities ignore stoneskin and other weapon protections. I've walked in on him, have minsc throw the axe at him, and he drops dead at the first hit. Works fine with the quest lichs too, but for some odd reason they always get off that first time stop/spell flurry then promptly drop dead. Was pretty funny one time when after the first timestop i fail a wail of the banshee save and see the lich drop to the ground at the same time i did.

dajir, thats chain contingency, and this is why mage battles can get so nasty, the game scripts spells that cannot be cast in lich scripts, like a chain contingency firing off a symbol fear in a same chain as stoneskin. does not work!! and it casts spell trap, 9th level spell...ick..
once, in astral prison, my main char got a chain of three abu dahzims, and dropped into a pit trap, and got stunned byt hte githyanki immediately and still killed all of them while stunned.
my main tactic this go around has been mugging techs, use chain and triggers for maximum lethality. typically get dragons in under 1 second, inflicting such major damage in a enemy in one round it fall s over and dies right quick

How do you get dragons that quick?
spell trigger: lower resist, lower resist, greater malais
then chan it with horrid wiltings?
or are ya use'n more than one caster?
Man, rely on summons too much for my big fights, and my F/M/T has spoiled me. For dragons i just timestop(scroll on a simmy) and send him in to lay down some improved hasted goodness.

(Spoiler)
The above mentioned lich is indeed easy if you manage survive his meteor storm. He will gate in a Pit Fiend and let's say - hypothetically of course - that you are protected from evil and he is not. Guess who's killed? One more thing, don't leave the room while the fiends's alive because he follows you and you may provoke masssacre in the tavern.
Daystar rules big time against vampires, I have a screenshot where it did 1050+ dmg to a whole group of them.

I poisened the lich (Arrows of biting, shot from a tuigan bow, by my invisible theif) so he couldn't cast gate, then it was easy.

Against that lich, since I didn't have a thief with me, I sent an Improved Invisible, Hasted Aerie in, had her cast knock to open the chest, grabbed Daystar, then exited the room. Then I cast hast, prot from evil, improved invisibility, Armor of Faith, and Chant on my PC(CG, Half-Elf, lv.9 Archer) and sent her in dual weilding daystar and some other long sword. That lich didn't stand a chance. The most it got cast was Minute Meteors(sp?) and that didn't even damage my Archer.
