about the Equalizer

In the weapon's description, it states that the sword should always be considered a +3 weapon when determining what it can hit. On my pc profile, however, my kensai has a -6 thaco with the weapon, which is the equivalent of a normal long sword. In reality, is the thaco -9, or is the equalizer a sword that only gives the bonuses listed in the rest of the description? Is my question clear?

Eq can hit anything that can be hit by a +3 weapon but the THAC0 bonus is determined by the target's alignement
Hope it helps

I think we will be able to upgrade the Equalizer in ToB.Let's hope it gets much better, because frankly, the first time when I finally gathered all the pieces and Cromwell forged the sword I was really disappointed

I expected much more from reading the description on the pieces:
"This is a part of the Equalizer, a great long sword forged long ago as a tool for balancing the powers of the universe."
yeah right...

That sword doesn't worth the trouble IMO. Just how many time can you know about your enemy's alignment before you fight? (except storming into Hall of Most Noble Order of Radiant Heart)

About the Equalizer,
first, it always does more damage than the corresponding regular magical long sword
second, mind shield ALWAYS helps
third, most opponents are chaotic evil, which is an alignment extreme
fourth, it's one of very few +3 longswords in the game (other than blade of roses +3, blackrazor, drow longsword +3, and sometimes Daystar (which is +4 I know) and flame tongue +1)

This is true if your party members are still pretty much low-level,but by the time you forge the sword, chances are that you are already near the experience cap,and that means that your front-line fighters should have ridiculously low saves
*This only applies to people who did most of the sub quests in chapter 2

I wonder, it might be possible to upgrade in TOB...I mean, my impression from descriptions was that if you added more pommel gems, it would get more powerful, but there's only one in the game.

They should let druids use the sword, it would be great compare to most druid weapons and, isn't neutrality the goal of druidic religion?

Didn't Bioware mention something like that in one of the ToB interviews? Oh, well... Better hang on to the thing for now.

Druids can't use piercing/slashing weapons!

But they can use spears and scimitars?

It's clerics who can only use blunt weapons, druids can use scimitar, spear and dagger.

Scimitars are in there, I think, because of Desert Druids (which I don't get, because aren't they supposed to be nature oriented?)

I like the Equalizer for my Kensai's off hand weapon even if :
1.)It looks like a fork
2.)Not a super Duper Uber Weapon.
3.)Does not damage all enemies the same.
The reasons I like it:
1.)My Kensai is a Sword Saint, not a Spear Saint or Club Saint and he likes longswords.
2.)My Kensai is usually lawful good and he likes to slay chaotic creatures.(Of course If he was chaotic he might like it for the same reasons...)
3.)My Kenai likes to dual wield his favorite weapons, and a sword that does +6 damage to some opponents is a nice bonus.
4.)My Kensai hates getting charmed...
5.)My Kensai likes the weapon...personal preference...best reason of all IMO.
