Looking for some Paladin Weapon Advise.

Hello Everyone,
Considering BG2's weapon skill system is more specific, I am wondering what is the best way for a paladin PC to go in weapons. I'm currently leaning towards the classic longsword and shield. But I keep looking at Carsomyr and there's something about the thought of building up towards a two-hand sword that, with the right skills has a speed of 1 that I can not shake off (really wish there was a one handed holy avenger sword).
So, I put it to you, which is better for a paladin: Longsword, Two Hander, or Other?
Appreciate the Help.

i like using a combination of both two handers and longsword / shield.
it all depends on the situation, a weapon like daystar or flame tounge may be more useful in certain situations & vice versa.
(and some of the shields in this game are not to be overlooked)

With longsword you'll probably have more options to choose from.....

I am playing an undead hunter and went for two handed weapons.(Holy avenger). Just remember to put some points in the two handed weapon fighting style...it helps make up for the inability to wield a shield. I think it gives a boost to your AC. Of course being an undead hunter I also filled a slot so I could use the Mace of Disruption...hehe

I found using HA boring since you have 50+ % magic resistance, couple that with cloak of mirroring, and that's what we called powergaming.
A longsword and a shield is the way to go. I would wield Daystar (or Equalizer) with Shield of Harmony. IMO, being a paladin itself is boring since you are so over-powered.

I would say that, unless you're planning to add another paladin to your party (Keldorn), two-handed weapon proficiency and two-handed weapon style are the way to go. As indicated by the posts above, the Holy Avenger is the reason (and Lilarcor, which you can obtain early in Chap. 2, isn't bad either). Many of the weapons listed in the above posts are great, but some can't be obtained until fairly late in the game. The Equalizer, for example, can't be assembled until Chap. 6. The Holy Avenger on the other hand can be obtained in Chapter 2 or 3 (it's a tough fight, but it can be done). So Lilarcor and the Holy Avenger are two of the best weapons in the game and they can be used throughout most of its length.

In the Windspear Hills dungeon you can get Dragonslayer. You'll also want to pick up Daystar.
However, I'd say that if you're playing an Inquisitor, you'll want to add that two-handed proficiency when you get the chance, so that you can use Holy Avenger. However, Dragonslayer comes in very handy in obtaining HA.

As others have said. If you're looking for a weapon that unfailingly slices down it's target ensure that you can wield Carsomyr. I just witnessed Keldorn almost single-handedly defeat the black dragon with that blade.

you guys are forgetting another awesome 2H sword.....the vorpal sword!!its better than the Carsomyr....though the carsomyr is handy for taking out mages and such.

For those thinking of dual-wielding,I'd recommend playing a ranger instead of a paladin
Anyway, the Vorpal Sword is indeed a powerful weapon (it's only a +3 weapon though, unlike the Carsomyr
) with it's ability to occasionally kill an enemy instantly.IMHO you should stick to two-handed swords if you're playing a paladin (Keldorn/Minsc wielding the Vorpal Sword while your PC wields the Carsomyr makes a deadly strike force
)

I play a paladin of tyr and wield a hammer, you can use it with a shield and, and you can get the hammer of thunder +3 early in chapter 2, and upgrade it to crom frayer later in the game i think its as good as the avenger, i have keldorn in my party so i let him use the Holy Avenger that way i have 2 really powerfull fighters, and the adition of anomen with the mace of disruption +2, to complte the evil fighting trio
so the hammer is a good alternative for paladins.
