Dual Class Proficiency (Help Needed)

I'm starting BG2 with (what else a planned Kensai/Mage).
I'm a little hazy on the distribution of proficiency points. At the start (level 8 Kensai), you get 6. Upon
reaching level 9, you get one more (for fighter class), for a total of 7 points. Once you dual class to a
mage, do you immediately get 2 proficiency points as a level 1 mage. Can you distribute this to your
current weapons or Fighting styles. What's the limitation (for mage)? Do you get one more point at
level 6 mage then 12? When can I apply these to Fighter weapons again.

Need Help.

Thanks.

I tried Dual-Classing from a fighter to mage myself(never played as one though)and I guess when you´re Dual-Classed into a mage then you really are a MAGE. See what I mean?

Your mage gets 1 slot immediately and next slots per 6 levels (at level 6, 12, etc.) You regain your kensai abilities at your kensai's level +1. If you do not want to waste proficiency slots, do the following:
1. Dual at level 9 - this gives you 7 slots.
2. Throw away the slot which you get immediately (assign it to dagger or so).
3. After reaching level 5, stop leveling up until your experience points allow you to enter level 10.
4. Level up (level 10). You will still be given the slot from level 6 but you also regain your kensai abilities. Therefore, you will assign the slot under kensai limitations. If you allowed entering level 6 as a mage, you would be doomed to assign the slot under mage limitations.

*** For number 4. Can you do this? I would have thought that the game would advance you to the next level -1. (At least I thought that's how the AD use to do it?) Gee thanks, I'll try it anyway Image
