Mordenkainen's Sword

I came across a pair of Githyanki(sp?) who cast these sword-things at me.

1. How do you kill them? They seemed kind of hard to hit with anything.

2. Where do I get this cool spell from? I've been collecting scrolls religiously, but I've never seen one for that spell.

1.Mordenkainen's Swords can be killed quite easily with spells(magic missile Image ).They have a certain immunity to weapons though(correct me on this if I'm wrong)

2.IIRC the spells are generated randomly except for some spells.I remembered getting the spell as early as Irenicus' Dungeon in one of my games

They have some immunity and deal out a good damage. in some situations they are great and in others they are useless on the summoning scale from 1-10 they get a 6.8

On MY summoning scale, they get 9.0 at least. Mordekainen's Sword is one of the best summoning spells.
Killing a Mordekainen's sword is almost impossible. Do not try weapons - my experience shows that +4 weapons are useless against the sword. As far as magic is concerned, do not forget that they have an active Greenstone Amulet + their own (high) magic resistances.
I've never fought against the sword, so that my recommendations are shots in the dark. I've seen repeatedly that Mordekainen's sword can be CHARMED (that's why you should not send them against the Black Dragon). Try Dire Charm. Also, you can try to Maze them.
The Kuo-Toa Dungeon seems to be a regular place where you will find the spell. Other places may contain the spell as a random treasure (you cannot count on it of course). If you do not want to wait so long, then

Their major disadvantage is their short time that they are in effect. IMO they don't last long enough for what I need them for. It is a great spell, but I'd rather have a couple of Earth, fire and Air elementals by my side.

There are times, however, that the +4 and less immunity does make them quite useful.

As far as beating them goes, the others suggested some good strategies, I personally haven't fought against them so I won't comment on that aspect.

Yes they are awesome summons except for thier one fatal flaw...they are vulnerable to magic missle. 2 casts of this will kill them. Otherwise they are impossible almost to kill. They worked really nice for me against Balor...2 of them hasted wacked im good

if you don't wanna use clua console, you could go to firkraags dungeon, and rest in the tunnels right before that random undead chamber...usually u are ambushed by a skeleton warrior, who for th efirst 4 or 5 times is carrying a spell scroll of high level (i never got a mordenkainens sword, but i got hakeashar summons, efreeti summons, finger of death, and one other...)

OK, I went there and rested in the tunnels I think you mean.
Several times.
Nothing.
Where exactly did you rest?

Do you mean the T-intersection you come to (when entering the dungeon) and where you turn East into a room where there are usually ghasts & mummies, with a whole bunch of shadows in the next room down?

Mordenkainen's Swords are immune to all physical damage. One will hold off a dragon if you keep it close enough that the dragon doesn't decide to breathe on it. Most magical damage will affect the Sword.

The Greenstone Amulets they drop are a bug. This was confirmed by a senior developer at BioWare. The Sword is supposed to be immune to charm and so forth having no "mind" to control. Whoever gave it the Amulet forgot that it has to be activated to work and the Sword can't do that; there are better creature items for this purpose.
