Hi everyone, im Jon-e-boy, my real name is jon, I just bought BG2 and i never played BG1, also i just recently purchased and add rule book but have nobody to play it with. I just wann say hi because i plan to be posting on this site more often. Now my question.
Im partial to rangers and i picked the beastmaster kit because i liked the ida of an animal companion. Only when i got in the game did i realiuze that the only familiar i got was afairy dragon. I hate it. Its terrible and i always keep it in my pack so it wont diue again and cost me a constitution point. if anybody knows of anyway to pick up auseful familiar and not some stupid dragon thats pretty much useless, please respond.

You are a chaotic neutral, that is the familiar to a chaotic neutral (its aligment dependent).
The spell description say all avaible familiars and their skills.
both the Rangers and Druids can find another figurine of power (it will be diferent for the druid and the ranger) besides the spider one, it will be a reward from their stonghold quest.
The figurines are quite good.
Drakron.

oh a newbie ..
joking ofcourse ..
Welcome to the best BG2 board .
Back to your problem .. You picked an odd and sad to say worthless character by choosing Beastmaster class . If i were you i would start over and pick a new class . Unless you want to hang around charming bears.
If you play a Mage , you can still have a companion(1st level spell Find Familiar) and have great fun by improving your character .
You can still play a Ranger but i see no fun in Beastmaster .

The only extra ability a beastmaster has is the animal summoning spells (they get to cast them as lvl 1,2 and 3 spells instead of 4,5 and 6).
It is true that he is a difficult character to play-a melee character being able to use only staff, club or bow.At least he can use scimitars, although this is a bug i believe (scimitar are metal weapons and beastmaster shouldn't be able to use them, propably they implemented the druid weapon range to the kit)

First of all, hi...good of you to join us.
Now, I agree with those who say that the Beastmaster is a pretty lame class, and if you're just starting the game, I'd be tempted to start over with a different class. (If you still want to play a ranger, archer is an interesting kit to play.)
HOWEVER, if you're into the game quite a bit, don't let the naysayers talk you into starting from scratch. There are several good clubs and staves in the game (spoilers below). The weapons restrictions are harsh, but not debilitating.

If you finish the trademeet quests, you'll be able to purchase Blackblood, which is an awesome melee weapon that could easily see you through to the endgame.

Welcome. There's little reason to pick a class in this particular game for its beast control abilities, since whatever you get does very little. Most other classes offer more, except for the bards, who still seem (to me) very late starters, and woefully under-nourished in many areas.

salutations,fellow newbie!
hmmm, the first time I played as an archer, and it was wonderful! my archer with grandmastery in shortbow and the tansheron's bow could kill off most everything before they even reached my party.
