Final Batte help/bug

I'm at the final battle in hell wif jon. the problem is, after the dialog , he just stands there and lets me just attack him. he doesn't put up a fight but i can't kill him. got his hp down to near death and i'm dishing out maybe 40+ damage per hit. still no effect. has anyone encountered this bug or wat else must i do?

Although, it might also mean that he's cast some sort of duplication spell. I experienced almost the same thing, I beat him down with hordes of summoned creatures and Pierce Magic spells, but I couldn't get the best of him.
That's when I realised the real slayer was at the BOTTOM of the screen.
Well, needless to say, I lost because I'd used virtually every spell and potion!!
