I'm trying to kill Kangaxx, the final Lich, who holds the Ring of Gaxx. It's kicking my butt!! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to beat it? Thanks!

I assume you are reffering to the Demi-Lich?
If not, don't scroll down.

Use Spell Immunity - Abjuration. Then put that person closest to him, he'll chain cast at them. This prevents him from casting imprisonment on you and you can hammer away.

Hmmm, do you mean scroll of freedom? I can't seem to find spell immunity. Is it a wizard spell level 8 or something?

No, it's a Protection from Magic scroll you need. You can buy them at the Adventurers Mart in the Waukeen Promenade. They have a green symbol, with a moonscythe and three stars in a circle.

My brother got him with his fighter, using the mace he found in Bodhi's Lair (the one that can destroy undead). For some reason, for me he kept saying "My weapon had no effect". Anyway, I equipped Minsc with a WarBlade +4 (secret stash at the Adventurer's Mart), and was able to kill him with that.

It appears you can only kill the Demi-Lich using +4 or better weapons. He is immune to spells like Sunray.

What I did yesterday, was this:
I cast Chant, Haste and Protection from Evil on my entire party. Also I used enrage with my strongest Fighter.
At first, a 'weaker' (that's RELATIVE!) Lich appeared. My strongest fighter kept back, while my fighter/thief attacked him. This is because this Lich is likely to dispell magical effects. With my Wizard I cast a Ruby Ray of Reversal on this Lich to remove any protections it had cast on itself. Once the Lich cast his 'dispell effects', the Fighter took the place of my Thief.
Then, when he was defeated and the Demi-Lich emerged, I used a Protection from Magic scroll with my fighter, and tried attacking him (fruitlessly as it turned out) with the above mentioned mace. With Minsc I first took care of the Mislead-image of the Lich, and next attacked the Lich himself, while the Lich focussed all his attacks on my fighter, but because of the protection of the scroll, they didn't do anything. He went down without too many problems.

A great boon here is 'The Ring of the Ram'. This ring can do damage to the Lich, so make use of it! Your weapon-based attacks will at most do 4 damage per hit, so adding the damage potential of the ring reduces the time required to get him considerably.

Where is this secret stash at the adventurers mart you are referring to?

I don't know if my game is the only one, but when I use protection from magic, I will still get imprisoned...

The secret stash in the Adventurer's Mart becomes available to your party seemingly after you have gone through the Asylum and the Underdark. It has some good equipment (like the afore mentioned WarBlade +4 and two 'Protection from Magic' scrolls), and a load of level 8 and level 9 Mage spellscrolls.

You'll pay 50 gold each time just to browse the secret stash ... sounds vaguely familair to me by the way.

I don't know about the failing Magic protection ... but what did you use? Did you use a Mage spell?? That won't do ... you'll need a real one-time use only Protection scroll. The symbol on it is green instead of white, blue or red. The symbol itself is a circle, in which there are three stars, and a moon scythe. Actually, it is the same symbol as for the spell 'Minor Globe of Invulnerability', only that one is blue.

I might also add that those two scrolls were the only two I ever found in the game. No other store or temple sold these (even though they did sell other protection scrolls).

Ahhhhhhh....

There's my mistake Image
I had the one that protected from Magic energy, the one with the blue circle with an x in it, that explains the failure I guess, but since I turned into the Slayer I didn't have that problem anyway Image

It's a bit of a cheesy way of doing it but this way worked for me.

Go to the adventurers mart and pick up from diedre (the bonus merchant) the helm that allows you to cast simalcrum (sorry can't remember name of item) While your there buy both the protection from magick scrolls from Barterman.

Now equip any charcter with the helm and put both protection scrolls into that characters quick items slot.

Now goto the docks and cast the simalcrum from the helm. then using the simalcrum cast the two protection scrolls on your two hardest fighters (who must have better than +4 weapons) now get everyon else well out of the way and proceed to talk to the skull and get into the fight. Kangaxx won't be able to touch you and you should be able to whip his undead backside all the way back to hell no probs.. Now the really cheesy part about this is that once the scraps over you will still have both protection scrolls ready to use against any other hard mages (it's abit of a broken combo I know)

All I did was have Minsc go into a berserker rage then sent him in alone, the demi-lich can't imprison someone raged, Minsc kicked his butt that way, toss in the ring of the ram and you have 1 toast lich while only using 1 character, used same strategy on demi-lich in ToB and it works just fine, if you don't have Minsc in your party Korgan has the same ability.

I seem to recall that there's also an electrically charged ring you can use in a similar fashion. I don't believe there's a save on it, either.

In slayer form your immune to imprisionment and also your "fists" hit him, so haste up and change to slayer = dead lich

Another good lich-killer is the cloak of sewers. Just polymorph in to the rat and you're immune to his attacks. Watch out for the creatures he summons though...

But using my little trick, I gained 2 rings of Kangaxx now. First pickpocket him, then kill him, two rings at you service! Regenerating super-fast! Or give them to other party-members...
