Awesome way to kill a dragon

Well, Dragons? they have high damage, good magics good saving throws and high magic resistance. This way is pretty hard but really fun. The party itself is crazy. I like monks, so in my party(multiplayer) i have 5 monks and a personal battle mage(LOL) my characters were all high level when i did this. the mage was a sorcerer and all monks had quivering palms(everybody were trying to get that one gauntlet from spellhold lol)
This is how i killed Firkraag, the red dragon. first i put three greater malisons in a spell trigger(i dont remember which one probably the highest one) and then surrounded the dragon with 5 monks, one on each edge of the circle. right after i fired the spell trigger,i cast time stop from a scroll and shot 4 or 5 (maybe 5) lower resistance, greater malisons, and one warding whip(warding whip insures safty even if monks fail.
Now this is the great part. All five of my monks cast quavering palms. The dragon fell. i sold carsomyr..
pretty pathetic nobody could use it.
If anyone have great dragon-slaying stories please share it with others...

Believe it or not, the first time I faced the Shadow Dragon I managed to disintegrate him without using lower resistance or any other spell that would increase the chance to do it.
That's what I call a lucky strike ...

Here is another one:
Get Jaheira or Cernd to cast Magic Resistance on the dragon.Prepare a sequencer with lower resistancex2,greater malison.
Use one of the three time stop scrolls you find.
On the first round of time stop unleash the spell trigger. On the second cast another greater malison. On the third cast finger of death.
Sweet!!!!

I'm trying to kill the shadow lord dragon. I've seen people killing dragons by using Jaheira's harm spell. But every time i cast it, it fails. How do you kill the dragon then?

It is a matter of pure luck with the harm spell. You just hope that he will fail both his MR roll and his save.
For the shadow dragon summon some weak creatures first so that he will use his death spell, then do some real summoning and fill the place with as many traps as you can(Yoshi is good at this).
Then cast haste and all other combat utility spells such as chant.
It wont be a terribly easy fight but you can beat it

That's all really high level stuff, and to be honest it doesn't have to be that hard. All it takes is two mages and a few third-level spells.
Once he 'dismisses' you (the arrogant bastard!) cast a couple of monster summoning spells and have them hit him. This changes his aura from blue to red and while he's offing the critters you just toss in 2-3 cloudkills and sit back while he chokes to death. Sure it ain't elegant, but you still get his rather paltry hoard and the XPs.

I've tried it and it makes him kill me slower, but i don't know how to do damge to him. He is magic resistance and to come near and do damage with melee weapons is to kill yourself. My thief is nalia and everytime i set a trap, it fails too....****ty situation eh
?

the difficulty is to keep him in the cloud. My creatures turn against me as soon as i cast stinking cloud, so they don't keep him there. does the silence spell work? It can keep him from casting spells.

@schept
Your thief is Nalia????
These are two words that do not go together man!
I understand that you are talking about the shadow dragon, yes?
A real cheap and non role-playing approach would be to stand so that the fog of war covers the dragon. Then unleash 4-5 cloudkills and the dragon will die in no time.
@turnipboy
just how did your barb cast simulacrum????

I don't think Harm checks against magic resistance or saves. You just have to hit the dragon.
Admittedly, I could be wrong. I only used that tactic the first time I fought Firkraag. Jaheira cast Harm and two slashes later, the dragon was dead. Either I got REALLY lucky or all you need to do is hit.

you can cast it with the helmet that you can buy from deirdre (i think thats what shes called) at the back of the adventurers mart. (u need to have one of those extra cds or have downloaded her) believe me, that helmet makes soloing a whole lot easier. too easy actually... oh well

hack or get 2 mages high enough for spell trigger and 1 chain contingency. load up triggers with lower resist and malison. set up chain for 3 abu dahzims, or if aerie implosions.
unload triggers on dragon simultaniously, and the chain will fire aout 2 seconds later, wiping it out instantly. cheap, and never fails. have jahira standing by with natures beauty for insurance.
nobody evne gets damaged.

After i posted my tale, i slayed the shadow dragon except this time with different(single player)party. This time, obviously my party sucked...
Regardless, i summoned two earth elementals and three modenkainen's sword. After some essential enchantments(such as protection from acid and resist fear) against dragons cast on the suicide team, i fired a spell trigger with few curses(this time i have two mage: Aerie and Nalia. So i fire a bunch of curses. Then i unleased a score of holy smites, warding whips, and skull traps.
By this time, all summoned units involved with suicide run(except wizard eye) were dead. Dragon, by this time, was "Badly Injured".
GROUP CHARGE finished the job...

in chap 6 i left the shadow dragon wardstone in my castle and {
accidently} just walked in on the shade drag. i whomped him just with a group charge and a few abi-dees.
and silver sword, equaliser, wave, cutthrought, flail o ages, robe of venca, red dragon scale armour....

My favorite tactic! Heck, even the 1st level spell "blindness" will work just as well if you try often enough. Sooner or later, Firkraag will fail his MR check and saving throw and be rendered completely helpless. And the best (cheesiest) part is, he won't turn hostile no matter how many time you attempt to blind him!

Cheapest way EVER to beat any dragon is this.... (since they are never hostile until you attack them) I just use Yoshimo to set traps around him and put my fighters up front. Then i just attack, he turns enemy, traps go off, he dies. simple and really cheap. i guess you could justify it in an RPG sense, but it's basically cheating.

Has it been so long since I released my Improved Dragon AI that everyone has forgotten it? Heres the Features of my Improved AI:
Improved SOA Dragons AI
This is an AI enhancement for all the SOA dragons, heres the features:
() Dragon moves around now, when it is not hostile, making it harder to pinpoint its location (With area effect spells and traps, or to surrond it).
() Dragon hearing is enhanced to what it should be, and if any protection, summoning, or preperation for combat (such as haste) spells are cast in it's lair, (or around it in a wide circle) it goes hostile and charges the party.
() Dragon goes hostile if it sees any dragon slaying weapons being carried, or any dragon scale armor being worn.
() Dragon goes hostile if any spells are cast in its view, traps laid, or innate abilities used.
() Dragon uses priority targeting to attack those it considers most dangerous in it's view.
() If you leave the battle, and then wait a little while, then return, dragon will be at full health again.
() If you leave the battle, and then rest, then return, Dragon will be at full health again, and have all his spells back.
() Dragon recognizes the wizard eye for what it is, and does not attack the Wizard Eye.
() Dragon gives warnings if you are too close to it, and will go hostile if you fail to heed these warnings.
() Dragon recognizes some items on sight, and will tailor his spells according to these items.
() Smarter use of his Innate Abilities. Not wasting them on immune characters.
() Smarter use of his spells. Not wasting them on immune characters.
() Dragon will seek out the party if summoned creatures are sent his way, and no PCs are detected. (Xyx inspired me to do this, with his darn wizard eye cheese tactics! ;-) after a random amount of time has passed (somewhere between 45 seconds and 6 minutes.)

If you are tired of dumb dragons, try mine. I was originally inspired by Kevin Dorner's ideas and I started with his improvements and added much more (all the info is in the readme).
