Anomen quest - BIG problem!

OK, I am completely stuck. I've searched all over for the answer, but cannot find it. Can anyone help?
Here's the deal - when I returned from the Underdark a messenger came to my party, telling Anomen to return home as his sister has died.
Problem is, when he goes in to talk to his dad, he keeps repeating (as soon as he is in sight) "Who are you? Get out of my house!". As such, he cannot move on with this quest.
Some particulars -
- Anomen has tried speaking to him. No help.
- I have tried restoring old saves. No help.
- This is definitely his house.
- He has definitely received the quest.
Apparently I am not the first that has had this problem. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks!

There's a problem, as this quest is timed, apparently. If you don't solve it within so many days AFTER the game tried to create the messenger, the quest fails. While in the Underdark, the messenger could not be spawned, but the game activated the next stage anyway ... while you were unaware, and unable to do anything about it. Only after returning from the Underdark the messenger could reach you ... way too late! Quite a bug if you'd ask me.

The patch does not address this one. On another board, I saw numerous posts about this problem, but it was never answered.
Is there a way to change the timer via the global variables?

But what to change it to?
Frankly, I do not think that this is a timer problem. The speech activation of the father is continual - he keeps breaking in with the same sentence, so much so that it is almost impossible to move.
Further, I changed the timer to shortly after Anomen joined. I still had the same problem!
This seems to me like a bug...

I can only imagine that it has something to do with you being in the Underdark for a while ...
In my first game, I had him along, but I got really sick of his arrogant, self centered character, and eventually dumped him for a NPC that fitted my party better. Note that my main was in this case a Priestess of Lathander, so I kicked the only romance out of my party. I did his quest all the way until he started comparing my main with a flower and such ... I'm not sure anymore, but I thought that it happened AFTER settling the conflict (i.e. stopping him from killing Saerk).
In my second run, I never even bothered to take him along.

As for the Underdark, I'm not so sure. I've seen numerous posts from those with this problem (just no answers!), and I believe some had this occur in chapter 3.
As for Anomen's personality, yes, he is a jerk. However, I need a good\neutral character, preferrably one who was a cleric, since I have some decent tanks. I found Aerie (who also has an annoying personality) to be lacking, because she couldn't advance well due to being a multi-class. Anomen fit well, since he can cast good cleric spells (heal helps!) and with a +5 sling, gauntlets of dex, and good armor, he is a decent fighter! Moreover, this late in the game, I do not want to trade him for a MUCH lower level alternative.
So the bottom line is this - how do I fix this, either in the game, or through the debug mode or Shadowkeeper? (There has to be a way to fix this via the global variables, but how??)

Have you tried to kick Anomen out in the Underdark and pick him back up in the city? This might help reset the quest.

Unfortunately, I cannot return to the Underdark. I have no saves from that time.
