symbol fear, death and stun

Post by Richard »

i was testing the area of effect of these spells and i discovered something with the cloak of mirroring:
the cloak is only supposed to reflect spell DAMAGE back to the caster right?
well, guess what: the effects of the symbol death and stun are also reflected back !!
the symbol fear works properly and is not reflected.
i experienced this with the 7th level cleric spells and wanted to test if this was true for the mage spells as well, but i only had symbol fear in my spellbook. (that one worked well and was not reflected)

anybody know if this is supposed to be or maybe its a bug??

Did the spells get centred on you (cast at you) or did cast on the floor or someone else?
Clk of Mirroring should only work centred on wearer

ok, i have to be a bit more specific about the situation i guess :)
this is what i exactly did:
person (mazzy) with cloak of mirroring moved in the center of an area with no other creatures near (to be exact: just outside the dark cave in the underdark).
then i cast a symbol (stun, fear, death) with anomen, who is certainly out of the area of effect when the symbol explodes.
i cast it right next to mazzy, not on her (though i fail to see the difference it would make in this case; i think it should only make a difference with spell turning or spell deflection etc).
now the results:
as the symbol fear explodes mazzy makes save vs spells. (thats ok)
as symbol stun explodes anomen makes save vs spells (which would indicate that the spell has been reflected)
as symbol death explodes anomen makes save vs spells (also reflected)

but since the symbols dont do damage, they should not be reflected by the cloak of mirroring (at least thats what i thought)

thx for help

(Minor) Spell Deflection and Turning do not protect against area spells, even if you are directly targeted.

hmm, when i read your post, i went to test it.
it is true, but the spell description says that if it is cast directly at the protected mage, it will be reflected. Another bug??

and another thing i found out: the minor spell turning spell has a bug too. In the spell decription it says that it will only reflect up to level 4 spells. But when i cast heal (level 6 priest spell) at my protected mage (to heal from the fireball i threw at him hehe) the heal got reflected back to the priest !!!
since heal is a level 6 spell, this should not be happening

thx for replying

the spell decription it says...
The manual and the in-game description are loaded with errors. The texts seem to have been copied from AD&D or BG1.

Installing the Game Text Update from Baldurdash remedies part of this.

Check my sig for a nice doc that deals with all the inconsistencies I and others have found :D
