Beholders That Take Away My AC...

This is really frustrating, it seems that whenever I fight someone or something that can cast "dispell magic", I lose 2 AC points.
Usually my mage guy is at -5, then he goes down to -3 and I can't ever get it back.
Is this a glitch in the game or is this really supposed to be happening?
Just for stats and such, my guy is using dex. gloves, gaxx ring, magi staff, cloak +2, and robe good magi.
It all adds up to -5, but I lose AC, esp. against the beholders in Underdark.
Someone help me?

The Staff of the Magi is buggy. Try re-equipping it.

Hmm, no, you see, if I take away all my items my guy has less AC than he did before if I took away all his items.
If I re-equip the staff nothing happens, I go down to -1 from -3 and then back up to -3.
What happened to the other two points? I'm usually at -5 and this is really pissing me off.
The other strange thing to note is that prior to getting to the beholders in this, the second time playing it, IT HAS NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE!
I don't get it and I don't want to have to re-install.
Help anyone?

Yes well, it doesn't just happen once.
Once they took me all the way back to 3 from -5. I must say that it really sucks having to run away from anything that can can dispell magic...
As for defensive harmony, it still doesn't explain why it never happened in the first game. And I've never used it before so unless one of the crazies from the asylum did, I don't know what the problem is.
Are you telling me no one has ever had a problem like this? It never happened when I was a fighter...

Stone golems do that to you although it is not permanent. Never experienced any such problems with beholders. Wierd really.

It has happened to my PC undead hunter couple of times... never permanent, it "ran out" after some time, have you tried sleeping?

No this stupid stuff is permanent.
I sleep and sleep and nothing happens.
I hate it.
It sucks.

This is beginning to sound like one of those affects that gets applied and fails to go away. (I had this happen to Nalia when her shapeshift to Mustard Jelly became permanent, interestingly enough, after an encounter with Beholders.) You'll have use Shadow Keeper to delete the affect. I don't know which one, though. It would help if you had a savegame before this happened, so that you can compare the before and after games to figure which it is. A lot of the affects do have a description of sorts, so you might find the problem affect that way. Also, check the base AC on the abilities tab - it should be 10.

As siad above i have seen somthing similar with stone golems it has never been permanet with me. (does any one know why stone golems are able to do this - as the only effects mentioned on screen are slow. Just interested.)

This happened to me too when I was soloing a monk with the experience cap off. Nothing reasonable would take it away, including sleep. A few days later (real time), though, it just disappeared. I still have no idea why it happened, and it hasn't happened since then.

If you have been slowed by the SLOW spell you suffer a +4 penalty to AC.
Also sometimes magic items have their abilities removed. Happened to me when i fought the slavers in the Guarded Compound.
I kept having magic weapons destoyed !
Personally i hope in TOB there's a beastie that can destroy magic weapons outright. Imagine how gutted you will be when your wonderful hammer falls to ashes at your feet.....and your +4 Plate suddenly turns into just ordinary Plate. he,he,he..
( hmm, that was easy no casulties...won with no casulties...but hold on where's the crom fayr gone? OH NO!! RELOAD! RELOAD!!!!)

The same did i. There was a Nishruu or a Hakeashar summoned by trap, i hadn't the Kevin's patch that time. The same happened in the Drow city dueling a mage in the inn, i had a ring lost. See Kevin's Baldurdash
