Help with ranger stronghold (minor Spoiler)

anybody know if there is a difference between giving the guy in the first quest the mithril, or killing them all? Is the necklace good for anything? And lastly how will this affect the amount of exp? any help would be great, thanks!

I always get him to agree to leave if I give him the neclace, then give him the neclace when I find it. The neclace IIRC is only worht 25O GP,and has no funtions at all. And you get far more experience for resolving the situation peasefully than you get for killing them all.

If you give him the necklace and don't accept the reward and you'll get 10,000 exp. Return to the cabin and talk to Mairyn for another 21,500 exp.
