Most useless NPC?

Hi there...
A week ago I finaly finished BG2, and I had a look at the characters stats...It turned out that in all the time Imoen had been in my party, she had only killed 5 (!) enemies - I mean, I know I didn't use her much, but 5 is not impressive at all...Guess I'd be better off without her...has anyone of you had the same "experiences" with characters that just didn't "fit" in your party? Just curious...

How to you see howmany kills they have?

they have a few diff stats, including kills and % of kills on the information screen.
when you are looking at the char's stats
str dex, xp, prof & skill page,
there is a button that says "information" iirc, if you click on that it'll show your kill stats.
-------------
that being said, i don't like using the stat of # of kills to determine a char's value.
most of my mages rarely get kills, eventhough they do all the debuff & soften action, and amp up my ftrs (who hog all the kills) before battle.
a char that is useless is one where you can't find a role for.
with that definition, viconia, haredalis & cernd never seem to fit in my groups. imo they are all too weak, too fragile or too limited.

you should also be aware of the fact that kills are listed for the current chapter AND for the game as a whole

It's dependent on how you play a given class, too. I don't know how aggressively you use your Mages, but I have Aerie in my current group and she's strictly a backliner. Still, she's managed to get the kill credit for both the Red Dragon and the Shadow Dragon, I never thought I'd be accusing her of being greedy for scalps
My choice for weakest NPC would be Cernd. It's a shame, 'cos he's very likeable, but if anyone knows how to get the most out of a Shapeshifter please tell me.

I agree.....i think we'll have to wait for ToB to see druids rule!!!!!

Yeah. Cernd wsa my choice too. Maybe I'm just not cut out for Druid tactics or something. What about Haer'Dalis? I've played the game 4 times but never used him. Is he any good?

Low Constitution makes him quite easy to be killed if used on a offensive role...
I think that he is very week but other people can use him in a offensive role quite well with the use of spells.

It's all determined by the kind of game you care to play. Personally, I've never used Cernd, because I prefer to have a druid who can cast while they fight, and fight in their own form. But if I didn't care about that, Cernd would certainly make a first class druid.

I don't think that HD is bad.His stats are ok except for his low con,but he's a bard anyway, and he's got some advantages i.e. his spins, decent lore, good pickpockes, and a wisdom draining sword that could kill anything in the game if he can hit it that is.Also he can put some nice things in a Contingency spell, since he reaches lvl 21 even in SoA.Some people might think that he's annoying, but to me he proved much
less annoying than Jan Jerka$$,who just doesn't know how to shut up,or Anomen the wannabie knight, that can't even use a sword

but it's just my personal preference, others might disagree.Fro more info about Haer'Dalis go here ->

Thanks, Avenger. I have higher xp cap so that bonus isn't as important. Friend of mine played Blade for the protagonist and swore by it. BTW, one of the strongest characgters you can summon (with CLUAConsole): Boo!! (try it and see - Dex 25, 4 attacks per round, etc)

Personally, I found Aerie, Imoen, Haer'Dalis and Cernd the most annoying and useless. Maybe I'm more hack and slash than most but I can never seem to cast spells quick enough before I get minced.
I like Minsc and Mazzy- purely because however high a level my character got and however good with a bow she was, she never began to compare to Mazzy.
Also, fluffy little characters like Aerie get killed very easily. You can put them as far back as you like but if they get hit twice they're dead. And that gets on my t!ts a bit.

I think it depends on one's playing style, some people prefer more fighters in their group cause they like the more "up-close-to-the-action" approach, while others can't imagine a party with out at least 2 mages and a cleric, mostly because they play with autopause always on,and like to use a more strategic approach.

LoL

True, but only yo an extent.Remember, those easy killable characters are also mages,so the solution is mirror image + stoneskin + contingency stonseskin@25% HPs and voila, they're much more durable now.Admit it,you are just angry because I mentioned the swordless Anomen joke

Yes,I actually tried this,I think it was already posted a while ago by Drakron Du´Dark, but nevertheless it is fun to give Boo a piece of the action

I think you have me mistaken with someone who gives a sh!t about anomen. For the record, I don't.
To be honest, I don't use autopause. Its not very realistic to pause a situation every time there is the remote possibility that you may get the crap kicked out of you.
Although, talking about realism, I haven't seen many trolls, ogres and mages around town recently either...

Yes,autopause could be added to my greatest cheese "spells" collection (including the almighty Quicksave and the infamous Archive Save)

but as I said before it just depends on the style of play, when I play a fighter heavy party I rarely use it myself.BTW about Anomen, guess I got your nick mixed up with someone else then...

Hehe, I think you have probably been mistaken for Vivien... loyal member of the Harem that she is...

If i had to make a list of the most useless characters it would be
1. Cernd (too weak overall)
2. Yoshimo (one ass sucking thief, I'd have Jan over him anytime)
3. Nalia (weak mage, even worse thief
What i found to be the best NPCs though are:
1. Minsc (not only the funniest, but the best in the game)
2. Korgan
3. Edwin (best mage easily)
4. Jan (best thief)
The only reason I would have Keldorn in a party is to wield the Carsonmyr. Everyone else is average.

No way, korgan owns minsc.
