This could be a stupid question for most of you guys, but I would just like to know its significance since ToB is inevitable.
And currently in BGII, how can I make use of it? Is there an available button/icon like the other thief skills (e.g. find/detect traps, pickpockets) How much skill points that can be considered "good enough" to devote to this ability?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

You use the Find Traps button for the detecting illusions
Not so sure how useful it is... Not too many illusions out there, are there?
Just to add a lil question of my own:
Does Detect Illusions wipe out Simulacrum and Project Image etc? (that would be so sweet!)

Like Evandarian said, use the detect traps button. Thieves' Detect Illusions ability works like True Sight once you have allocated enough points to it. I generally have to put ~120 points into it, but others have said that they only need 100. I've also noticed that when you're in combat, it doesn't cancel right away (button remains highlighted) when you attack.

I find it extremely useful - Jan has around 100 and he dispels most combat illusions, like shadow door, imp. invisibility etc.
It only detects once per round I think.
It is though a skill I wouldn't play without
(Minor spoiler)
Besides I noticed when hunting for the Rakasha(sp?) for the djini in trademeet and you enter it's lair (old house) near druid grove - he actually tells me that "she" has a lions head ... he saw through it's illusion

It is very very useful. 100 points is all you need, it seems to get better as you level aswell. Every mage use some kind of illusion, mirror image mislead etc. A good thing is that it can be used while wearing plate. I use it with my swashbuckler/fighter wearing armor of the hart.

I did a search for this topic, and this was the best thread I found.
My question is whether this skills works like True Sight once you put 100 points in it, regardless of level? Or does it work like True Sight only when you've put 100 points in it, and you've reached a certain level? If it's the latter, does anyone happen to know what that level is?
I'd like to solo a swashbuckler/mage, and the level at which I would dual at would be influenced by the answer.

Detect Illusion is great. Never worry about mirror image, any invis and even mislead. I like to tell my char to attack, then hit that detect traps button. that way its like i have true sight on during the fight at all times.
100 is enough to dispel the best illusions spells but if over 100 makes it work faster then i'd try it out. Too bad i can't test it, too lazy to reroll and my f/m/t is already maxed.

I always wondered about that ability. For some reason I thought it worked automatically. When nothing ever happened, I tried the detect traps button but never had the initiative to try it in combat. You mean I've had Jan all this time and fumbled around for true sight spells when I could've just hit F4?

Man, lucky I look up here every once in a while (instead of working

)
