I'm just wondering who is the average Joe roleplayer. How old, how long have you been playing role-playing games (tabletop or computer), what do you so. You know these sort of things. Maybe this forum is not the best sample but at any rate I'll start with me. M, 26, been playing for about 10 years (took a five year break tho') and I'm a designer in the great land of Beer, Babes and Bacon (that'd be Canada eh

I'm 15, the first RPG I've ever played is FF1 on NES. Since then it has been my favorite game genre. You probably guessed i'm a student. I'm also from Canada (Montreal to be exact)

29 yo, been rpg'ing for about 10 years, come from the land down under (Sun, Sand, Surf, Beer, Babes , prawns on the BBQ etc). Australia for those who haven't guessed.
Most enjoyable CRPG ever played, is the original pool of radiance series. Still enjoy PnP rpg'ing because of the human interaction.

From the flat plains of Holland. I'm M., 24 years. Currently working on a university study in Astronomy.
I've been playing RPG's since I was 14 or so ... started out as PnP RPG's, but I've also done numerous RPG's on computer. To mention a few: Dragons of Flame (back in the good ol' C64 days!), Diablo I & II and BG I & II. Actually I've never seriously played PnP AD&D or so ... for ten years now (with a break of a few years), I've been playing another PnP RPG, originating from Germany. I like that RPG system better than the AD&D system, to be honest.

I think i am some kind of veteran CRPG player. Why is that?
Well, let's just say that i am so old that i have met Keldorn when he was just a squirre and i was fighting that evil mage named Mangar in Bard's Tale.Maybe i am too old though,i don't remember the city's name (Skara Brae?).Perhaps another veteran player can enlighten me,because my memory is fading after all these years of adventuring.(But i am not thinking of retiring any time soon, there is always so much evil to deal with!)

I played Hero Quest and similar games when i was younger which could be construed as RPG no D&D though.
I am at the still raging age of 18

Your name wouldn't be Hrothgar would it
(for all the Icewind Dale players out there)

I'm 29 and live in TX, USA. I've been playing for about 16 years. First CRPG was Ultima 3...at least, it was the closest thing to a CRPG available at the time. I went back and played all the Ultimas up to 8 and several Wizardry.
Bill -- With the Bard's Tale series, I started soloing the games rather than using a party. I miss my level 350+ Archmage with 9999+ hp/sp (I can be a powergamer at times). With BG2 the party adds too much interaction for it to be as fun to do it solo though.
PnP I played MERP a lot in junior high, Warhammer Fantasy RP in high school, and a little D&D in college.

Nighthawk-- I also remember trying to be an archmage in BT1 but it was a little stupid.I visited some catacombs again and again (one particular was filled with 50+ skeletons every time you visited it,so with every attempt you gathered a lot of experience) using this fire or frost horn with my bard (nice breath weapon). How long have you been played this game ?
Anyway, this was a LONG time ago.By the way, what type of computer did you use?Mine was an Amstrad CPC6128 (propably you haven't heard it before,it was a British home computer-I am from Europe you see)

Hey,
29 work at a University (not as a professor). Been playing PnP roleplaying games since I was about 9. Started with D&D and still play on a semi regular basis. Play Cyberpunk, Twilight 2000, Call of Cthulhu, D&D plus tons of other ones I cannot remember (usually for good reason)....started with CRPG's with Ultima 1. Played through Ultima 4. for some reason I thought Skara Brae was one of the places in U4 that you could get all the good magic ingredients? Played Bards tale....then stopped cause they all seemed to put lots of hard puzzles in them (I really fucking hate puzzles.....) I like the BG stuff stuff cause the puzzles are really easy and hacking stuff up is a good release of aggression from talking to the stupider people in the world....
Live in Northern Virginia.
I think that is all.

Hummmmm. Elminster and I attended University together. Born today in 1944. Never played PnP D&D but did play the Gold Box games from SSI. Became really hooked with, gasp, Diablo and then moved up(?) to BGI. Mid-range computer programmer/analyst (since 1967)......

Hmmmmm....
It surprises me that I'm not one of the first to write on this topic today, am I spening too much time on homework? Probably.. NOT
Well, I'm from the land of unlimited beer and, best of all, real blondes
for those who haven't figured it out yet, I am from the veeery high taxed country of Denmark. When it comes down to my age, then I must be 18 and am, as Sleepy figured, attending a business college and am on my 3rd, and luckily, the last year...
So much about my being on earth. When it comes down to the computer thingy I can mention that I have been interested in computers since I was erm... ungh... errrr... 7 years old? Yeah, probably. I started out with a pacman game on a 286 with 25 mhz, real powerful $hit guys!!!
After that I went to the C64, and that was the time when I was getting myself into becoming a hardcore gamer. Not in the beginning, but over some weekends I played for about 8 hours a day, with a break of 10 minutes... Then I had a break from the computer world, but returned to it again when I got my own pc. It all started with fifa international soccer... Right now BGII has the power over my hd, but I must admit that I'm playing every game that falls into my hands, I prefer rpg's, rts's and sportsgames.
The game I spent the most time with must have been Diablo, maybe I spent the same amount of time with the sequel, too, but I'm unsure about that one. BGI was my favourite rpg though, since Diablo is more an action game than an rpg game.
That was the "short" history of me, myself and Bordin Steelaxe
