You know I was thinking about mods/cheese/battles

What I think I would like, more then anything, for a mod to do is just change up the battles.

Not make them full of uber oppenents who require you prepare for the battle specifically in advance. That would pretty much defeat the whole idea.

Just a mod that changes basic things about the battles. Changes how they spawn in, the timing, concentrates on improving the AI rather then adding abilities, maybe a few additional enemies, but interesting ones with interesting abilities more so then powerful ones.

In other words, nothing big so much as just something that gives me a "playing for the first time" feel to a lot of the bigger battles.

Yeah, like even randomize the amount of minions or something (instead of three golems, there might only be one; instead of one Mummy, there might be three). Also, attacking mages rather then fighters when they pose the larger threat (that uber-ranger might be dangerous, but not as much as that mage casting Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting), or ever attacking and finding thieves rather then melee fighters (a successful and lucky backstab can quickly turn any battle).

Interesting monsters? How about fighting a band of wild mages? :D

That would be fantastic. It wouldn't be too hard, I suppose. Simply tell the monsters to attack anyone with mage as a class, and/or attack the characters with the lowest HP first. I think, though, the best AI change would be to make them gang up on individual characters, even if that means they're being attacked from behind. A small, relatively weak force can decimate a larger, more powerful force simply by concentrating on one enemy at a time. Monsters should do that.

Of course, that'd make Aerie die in battle each time in a heartbeat, which would be good. I ended up using her as a tank more often than not in ToB, wearing the Aslyferund chain and using the Flail of the Ages. Sad, isn't it? A few good chunking deaths here and there would actually make me protect her.

Great Idea!

You might be interested in a mod called "Unfinished Business." In addition to fleshing out some of the quests that were left out of the original game, it adds numerous random encounters. There are a few that really take you by surprise :D I won't say more because I don't want to spoil anything for those who have not used the mod and might be planning to.
