De'Arnise Keep Question

I've been bumbling around in the Keep for quite awhile now and have just about cleared out the stray trolls. I've bypassed the golem room on my way down to the basement (got caught by them once and they spanked me good!). I've cleared the first two rooms - here's where the trouble begins:

I have the stew, but can't get past the umber hulks to the passage where you're supposed to set the pot without getting noticed and crushed. Is there another way down into the basement, or another place to set the stew to lure them away?

Also, does anything - other than bumbling around in the golem room - set off the golems? Can I expect a surprise visit from them after I defeat the Troll Master in the basement?

My team consists of Jyrran (fighter), Minsc, Yoshimo, Aerie, and Jahiera; Anomen died in an earlier fight.

Suggestions would be most appreciated!

Thanks!

There is only one place to set the stew, try casting Invisibility and Haste on one of your character and send him/her through.
The golems only activate if you remove any of the unidentified items from the statues - this does not mean the Flail head - so you can take the Flail and leave without fighting them.

Hide a Thief and send them in. They will lose their Hidden status as soon as you put the stew in the container - you have about 18 seconds before the Thief re-appears which is plenty of time to get past the Umber Hulks and shut the door (or Cloudkill or whatever you like). Don't forget to turn your AI off so the Thief doesn't attack and reveal themself.

The golems will be gone after you kill the trolls, unfortunately the equipment in this room will also be gone, except perhaps for the flail head.

I haven't tried this, but a sactuary spell on a person should work. They are virtually invisible to the enemy.

Yes, I always use the sanctuary spell for this, and also get treasures from Golem room. It's useful spell in these situation, I think.

Cast sanctuary (Aerie can do well), and send her to the room. Everyone else need to be away from the door, as umber hulks will attack if they see them. As soon as you open the door, UH will turn hostile, but they won't attack you. Just walk in with the stew, leave it, then walk out.

Too bad Sanctuary doesn't work like the manual states... It would be nice to go around healing others while remaining invisible.

But then again, Blade Barrier doesn't break it if you cast it before the Sanctuary :D

Two Orcs talking

Orc 1: "Where dat priest go? He run round corner or sumtin'?

Orc 2: "Hey, yoo is bleedin'! What happ- Urrghh!"

What's the problem with the Umber Hulks? Just cast a Cloudkill into the room, close the door and hear them dying...

Thanks for the suggestions. Using Yoshimo I can get the stew placed and get him back before anything happens. However, I can't seem to figure out how long it should take for the stew to lure the umber hulks away so I can get past.

Panda - although cloudkill works to some extent, it isn't fool-proof. I can take out 1-3 of the creepies, but I end up fighting the rest. I've been using a wand of cloudkill, but wonder if the spell itself would work better (?).

This is most frustrating!

After Yoshimo places the stew, go back in the room (after the umber hulks have vacated) and close all the doors. You won't ever have to look at those things again (at least not in that dungeon). You get more XPs this way than if you fight and kill them.

IIRC you can do the stew thing after you've killed them and still get XP for both :D
