Setting Traps

Well I tried setting traps for the first time – the scenario and outcome were as follow. I decided to use Yoshimo’s trap setting skill to help with 4 Golems I encountered. So I set 4 traps (3 normal and 1 special) in the next room and then lured one of the Golems in. The Golem came no where near any of the traps I set (according to where the trap graphic was placed on the floor) but apparently set off all 4 which killed him. I am assuming all 4 were set off since I tested those areas later with one of my party. Initially I assumed that traps set would function exactly like traps encountered in dungeons. I seem to be mistaken. Could somebody please enlighten me?

What do you mean by this?
No one of your party can set off those traps even if they are still there.

The thief's traps work different than the usual ones.
The enemy doesn't have to walk into them to set them off, they have some kind of proximity fuse instead.

Yeah, good ol' Yoshimo keeps a bag of Claymores handy, doesn't he?

I don't use traps often, but when I do, they're incredibly fun. Unfortunately, they have to be set in a place where I know that there are enemies nearby (the paladin's detect evil ameliorates some of the cheese inherent in this approach). Doorways are nice. Then, set the part to hang around in there while the thief explores. Whoops! Baddies! Run away! At which point, they follow, and you stagger into the proximity of your party just before your enemies explode. Which is always fun.

traps are really usefull in the beginnign of the game.
for example the golems in nalia's Hold are a very though fight that urly in the game when u place traps the iron golems goes down imidiatly .
traps are also usefull vs. Kangaxx or other strong enemy's how appear on the same place every time, just place a couple of traps and they die quickly.
Remember traps are very fast, faster then contingency's, and activate imidiatly when a enemy is near.
That is really handy with enemys like kangaxx because they use alot of defensive spells but the traps go of before he can protect him self.
