End game gone wacky? (SPOILERS?)

Starting with the Balthazar section, I have run into a real oddity. I get large chunks of "null" dialogue, where there are no options, no selections, and a bunch of empty quotes from me and from Balthazar, then from Irenecus and Bhodi - maybe Mellisan - at the end. For the final battle (that, sadly, is going to require cheese, I suspect), I have about 4 rounds during which I cannot do any actions, and the NPCs start slaughtering me and my 4 remaining allies. After that, I just kinda gave up

. Anyone run into this before?

You are playing ascencion, dontcha?
Try telling us how is your party. Yes, the last batle is gonna require cheese. And you should have the option to whack them. May be somekind of bug.

Reinstalling the ascension and redemption mods seems to have fixed the dialogue issue. Now I have to learn how to create cheese

. Me 0, Mellisandra's minions 2. And dropping a party member is tough to do. The "obvious" choice doesn't seem to help

Well, I guess that I should be glad that I fixed the dialogues, though the battle against all 5 bhaalspawn is, for me, hopeless - especially with only 5 party members (why did the solar tell me to drop someone? Bah). Sendai or Balthazar alone can kill my entire party even when I try to gang up on em, with any spell combination that I can come up with, without cheating with a wish. The fact that they move at about 1/2-again as fast as improved-hasted characters or gate away from trouble at the blink of an eye is - err - a pain

. Ahh well. BG2 was fun for a while. Maybe I will revisit it in a few days.
*** late edit (spoilers):
OK, now that I know that I can have Balthazar and JI on my side, maybe I will try it again, after all. I can only hope that sending Imoen away was the right choice - I feel like a cad for doing so. I hope that I won't have to refight these last 4+ battles again if I am wrong
