Dual-Class Ranger/Cleric

I'm starting a new game with, this time, a dual-classed Cleric/Ranger. I started as a ranger (I'm just out of Irenicus Dungeon) and I plan to dual-class to a Cleric. I'm now level 8 and I wonder at wich level I should dual. I'm trying to beat SoA & ToB with a 3 character Party. Here's what I plan :

- Me (Dual Classed Ranger/Cleric)
- Jan Jansen - Imoen (Mage/Thief)
- Solaufein (Fighter/Mage)

I'll have : 2 Mages, 2 Figters, 1 Healer, 1 Thief. I want my characters to level pretty fast. Now what here's a few questions :

- At wich level should I dual to Cleric?
- Should I solo between my dualing and the reactivation of my Ranger's Abilities?
- Wich quests* should I keep for the time I'll lack my Rangers Abilities?

* I need easy quest with lots of XP. I've think about : Skinner Murderer Quest, Sarles' Quest and Mae'Var's & Edwin's quests.

Don't forget to hit up the Wembly quest while soloing - quick 15K, and another 5 from the parents, I think? Can't remember fully. Plus the Helm and Lathander quests are pretty quick and easy, if timed well around the Mae'Var ones.

Oh yeah! The little guy with the stuffed Bear? In the same district, there's the Orphelin girl and the Paladin too... No fight, Quick, XP :D

Edwin's quest is a bugger (if youre talking about the graveyard) for a low level party.

as for when you should dual, if you primarily want a cleric who can cast all the divine spells, dual now. your character will end up being a basic cleric who can fight some and less when you hit ToB.

if you're going all the way through ToB, i recommend dualling at level 13 for the hp, THAC0 and proficiencies.

also, you cant get sola until the end of underdark, so pick up and NPC to carry until then, preferably a fighter type

my advice is to just SK a multi class ranger cleric

yeah, maybe multi-class would be more interesting...
since you have only 3 party members, you'll have plenty xp to reach the xp cap 10 times... almost

Why use SK, since half-elves can be Ranger/Clerics? Is there a disadvantage to this "default" method of creation?

Well I've never palyed them because I consider the combo odd, but from waht I understand a Dualclassed Ranger/Cleric will get Ranger abilities only until the point you dual to a Cleric, but a Multiclassed Ranger/Cleric will have access to all the divine spells of the Druid and Cleric. At least that's what I understand from other people's testimony.

Well, When I'll have capped my rangers abilities (Level 13 - No more Thaco Upgrades), I'll dual-class to Ranger (So I can gain alot of levels as a Cleric). My goal is to be a cleric that is "able to fight". Yes I could have make a dual-class (or even multi-class) Fighter/Cleric, but I don't want this. I want to have both Cleric and Druids spells, but I'm not interested in Ranger's HLAs even if they are quite powerful. That's why I want a Dual-Classed Ranger/Cleric.

What I'm saying is that you're not losing anything by doing a multiclass, so why not just do it that way, and plus from whst I understand you'll gain druid spells as a druid not a ranger. And this way you'll have everything from the beginning, you won't be waiting on anything.

But after level 13, my rangers levels won't give me enough abilities (Few level 1-2-3 spells slots only, and a TON of Charm Animals)

Cleric/Ranger

Go multiclass - you'll be able to get all those yummy HLAs if you ever take them to ToB.

Yeah - gaining Summon Fire Elemental and Insect Plague can be quite handy, but the advantage of melee-class HLAs is considerable.

Well I just made a multi Cleric/Ranger and the ranger being only level 6 has the same spells as a level 6 druid. I don't think you understand that when you multi a Ranger/Cleric somehow the rules change and the ranger half gains spells as a druid would making it a super cheesy combo. You don't know what you're missing out on by dualing.

BTW : I'm trying to be the less cheesy possible :)

Just Joking. I said I don't want to be cheesy, I didn't say I wanted to be the weaker guy in the world!

Fallen Beastmaster Rulz! :)

Ranger/Clerics, whether multi or dual classed, are by default cheesy.

There's a bug in the system that allows this combo access to all Cleric and all Druid spells.

i think it's the same whether you're multi or dual classed, you get all the druid spells anyway. Even if you dual at lvl 2 I think (although it'S hardly possible in BG2 but could be done if imported from BG1)
