Cloak of the Sewers

My Cloak of the Sewers seems to have a bug in it... I tried using it to become a mustard jelly for the only reason one would ever become a mustard jelly, and I discovered that the MR portion of the transformation was missing. I just ate a bunch of magic missiles before I could turn back and haste out of there.
Has anyone else maybe noticed this? I've installed the patch and the fixpack, so that's not it, but it could be some corrupt file somewhere. I'm also noticing a crash situation when I throw out a Cloudkill with the sound on.
It would be nice to know I'm not just crazy

Well, if it make you feel any better, I have the same problem.
However, I'm pretty positive there's a patch for that problem and I'm guessing it is the Baldurdash Fixpack. Since I don't have that fixpack installed, I'm guessing that it will solve your problem.
You got the latest editions and/or the ToB version??

Fixpack
I've got SoA and ToB installed, and I thought I had installed the Balderdash Fixpack. But in retrospect, you're right, I downloaded it, but didn't install. I actually like some of the beneficial glitches, and decided to live with the malignant ones. I guess I'll just go ahead and install it.
Thanks...

It's not a bug. The Sewer's Cloak was just too powerful if it could give you 100% MR... so they removed it.
Try to find the "role-play reason" of this. Why do a pack of gelly resist to magic? Because it doesn't have a brain and because the gelly is just too resistant to physical magic. When you transform yourself into a mustard jelly, your BODY is transformed, but you still think the way you would normally do. Result : You CAN be affected by spells (Like Charms, Illusions, etc.). But your body gives you a Magic Damage Resistance (If they didn't drop it too...).

I never used the cloak for anything but transforming into a Troll to regenerate, but thanks for the heads up. It would kinda suck if I'd gotten myself into the thick of battle and transformed into a muxtard jelly not realizing I'm still succeptible to magic.

IMO, the most useful thing about this item is that it gives a +1 to AC that stacks with other magical items/armour etc.
I might have to try actually using it to morph into a troll though

Ditto.
And who would want to become a rat, anyway?

It's been a while but I recall the rat having 18/00 str, so in a pinch you could use it to lug around some heavy loot. And the stackable +1 is always a plus.

I basically see it as a Cloak of Protection +1 with a once/day heal spell ...
It's unfortunate they didn't let the rat go around 'unseen' ... I mean who's going to pay attention to a lowly rat? You should be able to use the rat form to scout the area, or sneak by someone.

Wouldnt that qualify as cheese? soloing, turn into rat, sneak past all the monsters to get to the boss... Cheese if you ask me.

There's already plenty of ways you 'sneak' past someone if you want - any of the Invisibility spells, Hide in Shadows, Potion of Invisibilty, various magic items ...
Of course there's also various methods of seeing through those, whereas a rat would be the proverbial 'hidden in plain sight' - they can see you, they just wouldn't care.
In any case, I wouldn't call sneaking past someone cheese ... it's a perfectly legitimate strategy. If this was 'real' would you go stomping through the front door, raising a ruckus, and making sure the 'big boss' is warned of your coming? Or would you try to slip quietly by, and catch him/her by surprise?
On the other hand, in the game, you probably want to kill them for the loot anyway

Not to mention all the exp you'd be missing out on.

But rather then causing a ruckus, casting Death Spell is much quieter and easier way.

The most useful thing about the cloak of the Sewers is that the rat form is
90% resistant to melee damage. That's pretty freaking awesome. It doesn't stack with gear, like Jansesn adventurewear or the Defender of Easthaven, but does stack with Armor of Faith.
Can anyone think of a use for being 100% melee resistant, avaialble to you almost immediately after leaving Chateau Irenicus? I sure can
