Spoiler maybe
No you can choose one of the three Jedi classes. They are not dependant on what normal class you are. Obviously you would make a better guardian if you are a soldier but there is no pressure. One of the jedi dudes asks you questions to determin which Jedi you are most like but you do not have to do as he says.

No offense, but that's not obvious. If you'll read some of the back threads in this forum, you'll find very eloquent spokespeople for a host of combinations, all of whiom make a great deal of sense. For example, I ran a soldier who chose the jedi trade which focuses on powers. He had plenty of melee abilities at his disposal, lots of hit points, and a great horde of mnd tricks to use before and during battle.

That's what I
always do. I'm confused... I should read up more on the different classes and junk of the Jedi. Anyways, I'm always a soldier no matter what. I once played a scout, and she was so weak, I kept dying all the time. I haven't even tried a scoundrel. She'd probably be just as weak. And I like using swords and stuff anyways. I usually have a party of one blaster, (blasterer?)... and the other with swords. I always use swords, too. When I'm a Jedi, I like having one lightsaber (I forget the crystal combo) and in my other hand, (spoiler)
Naga Sadow's poison blade. I like two lightsabers, also. I don't like, however, double-sided lightsabers. I usually have a party of three Jedi, too, with six lightsabers, none being double-sided. Am I alone on this, or do others dislike them too?
(Pardon my grammar and randomized categorization of this paragraph. I feel like I just woke up.)

well...I've always felt that the Consular with a scoundrel or a soldier are great because they have good resistances and such, but Consular get's 2 force powers every few levels...It's all a matter of preference...you know?

I usually become a consular because I dig using force powers, if that's not really your thing then obvioulsy you should go with something else.
However, don't think that just because you have a consular (or sentinel for that matter) your character is going to suck with the lightsaber, my guy was a scoundral/consular and he can pretty much kick the crap out of anyone. He doesn't have as many hit points as other characters in different classes, but it doesn't matter since all of my enemies are in stasis fields or force chokes (hard to kill some one when you can't move or breath).

I loved playing a scout/sentinel... I played with duel lightsabers and she kicked some serious butt. This next time, though, I think I'll go for more force powers when I pick my Jedi class. I didn't like playing with three Jedi; I liked to mix the party up a bit.

In the attachment a guy worked out a character that is as strong as an Guardian and has (almost) as many Force Powers as an Consular.

I just pick something (soldier/scout/scoundrel) I don't generally pay attention to what they are. When I choose what type of Jedi I want to be, I review the stats before I choose, but I think I usually wind up a Sentinel. I was never a fan of the double-blade lightsabers, and they seem to be quite weak in this game to me. Besides, when you have two lightsabers, you can use more crystals to enhance them, which tends to make them far stronger than a double-blade could ever be. And I generally run around with two Jedi, too; usually Bastilla and Juhani, since Jolee kind of seems a bit weak for me.

This is technically not correct, double bladed lightsabers do more damage than dual sabers. And you'll effectively have the best crystal combo available in both hands.
More crystals is not automatically better. The offhand blade only gets one attack, no matter what, and will therefore have less effect, at least when using Flurry and/or Master Speed.

Yeah its true, double sided sabers are more powerful but they have the disadvantage that 1)you cant have a saber devoted to blocking shots fired at you 2) a double blade jsut doesnt look as kool and 3) with two sabers you use more crystals which means that you can have a blade for stunning or diff types of attacks
now listen to me, i beat the game with a day of picking it up and i have since beat it with over 15 diff combos of the diff types of jedi and norm chars, a good thing to do would be to have a saber in one hand and a norm sword in the other, like naga sadows poison blade ro soemthing
