Poll - Toughest Battle in ToB ? :::::SPOILERS:::::

What did you feel was the toughest battle in ToB?

Id have to say, besides demogorgon, draconis or that bastard huntress party in watchers. Not sure why but I had to reload twice on that damn party. Draconis is one of the toughest in the BG series imho. I didnt reload but he pushed me to to the limits and I threw everything I had at him.

I agree with you 100% Irenin. Draconis was much tougher then Abazigal and that Huntress party in Watcher's Keep was crazy too. Demogorgon himself is the king of summoning. He can pull Mariliths out of his ass like nobody's business. Compared to these bastards Melissan is a pushover. ;)

Yeah mellisan wasnt hard. I was getting more pissed off by the prince of airs posse cuz they kept level draining me. (arg). Then I would cast lesser restoration and of course anomen is fatigued for the rest of the battle.

Melissan easier than Demogorgon and Draconis? Weird. Draconis was fun and challenging, but really didn't have a chance even against my unprepared party. Demogorgon went down in two rounds.

Melissan, by contrast, took a lot of effort and I still died twice (to time stop + melee attack the third time you fight her). Number of times I had to reload anywhere else in the game (including Demogorgon and 4 dragons): 0. Since 2/0 is infinity, clearly Melissan is infinitely harder than Demogorgon or Draconis.

The third (second to last) time you fight M was by far the hardest. I just ignored the shadow things and focused everything on Melissan, and this finally did her in. I would have had an easier time had I remembered you can get your spells back without resting with Limited Wish.

Different parties handle different things better, shrug shrug. You killed demogorgon in two rounds?...

Yes. Viconia, PC, and Imoen launch Energy Blades. (I forget if I cast breach for his stoneskin.) Korgan (improved haste, dual wielding) uses whatever the skill is that gives just criticals for a round. Sarevok and Keldorn use greater whirlwind two times. Totally ignore summoned monsters. He dies. Fast.

However, I did all of Watcher's Keep after the main plotline (restarting from before confronting Melissan), so my party was far more powerful than against Melissan.

are you sure it was 2 rounds? Hehe, but anyohw I did it the opposite, I did watchers keep as soon as I could then melissan.

The Demogorgon was tough but not as tough as I had feared... Draconis was cool and yes, tougher than his father.

Personally, I found the Hunter party in WK, Yaga-Shura (because I went straight for that) and Melissan the toughest... The drow bitch and Balthazar were the surprisingly easy.

In SoA it'll give you some level 1-4 spells... Has that changed for ToB?

Toughest battles for my party:

1) Draconis - looks like someone at BIO has been studying KansaiRyu's scripts  :D

2) The Huntress party - the one that appears when you insert the final key to the Demobaboon chamber, had to reload at least 3 times there :( And then without resting I went against monkey boy with my lvl 20-22 party and kicked his sorry arse!!?Is that realistic?I mean he IS the prince of demons and after all right?

3) The drow babe Bhalspawn (can't remember the name right now) - her fighters that appeared when I killed each of her "statues" always killed Imoen so I couldn't cast breach and had to reload

4) Mellisan - well, not as hard as I thought she would be,but the elemental princes were a real pain, especially with all those level draining creatures that made my mages loose some spells.

All in all,I am pleased with ToB but somehow it feels more like I'm playing IWD than a Baldur's Gate game.Too much fighting in too short time (hope you understand what I mean :) ) I wonder if there'll be a different ending for my evil party?

Yes,I've been wondering about that actually. How come our hero and his party become the mightiest warriors of the realms in...let's say one year (in game time) while Elminster needed how much...most of his life to get where he is today(lvl 30?).Hm a bit weird...

It's official now: We're sooo much better than Elminster. :D

i found melissan the hardest, demobaboon went down real fast for me too after greater whirlwind on keldorn and sarevok

the most annoying was the last fight with melissan as her symbol fear hit sarevok and keldorn everytime (bad luck i guess), i had to have korgan tank it out while casting heal on him with jaheira until keldorn and sarevok went brave again and could ww her to oblivion

btw. how do you get the second ending?
first was if you take the throne, and the third if you do not..

By the way, do Evil characters finally get the chance to kill Elminster in ToB?

Never liked him anyway... What's his alignment supposed to be? True Neutral? If he were Good, he should have helped me a bit more in BG1.

I would assume true netural since hes a harper but you meet elminster.. you dont fight him.

Elminster is Chaotic Good in alignment. He tells you that even he would not dare challenge you dispite his centuries of experience.

P.S. The reason why the PC levels up so fast is due to his divine heritage. The other NPCs are just along for the ride. ;)

Well if you have edwin in your party.... in his little ending it tells how he challenges elminster himself but gets embrassed, turned into a woman and now waits tables :D .

Yeah, I was laughing my ass off at that part. I liked Sarevok's ending too. Seems like he could be the hero of his own spinoff series.
