Poll: Are there any other females out there that play BGII??

I don't know if any of you ladies have had the experience of being the only one you know that gets into role-player games like BGII. As far as I know, I'm the only girl I know that plays this game. Just out of curiousity, are there any other 'oddballs' out there??

I think that's super cool that girls play this game too. I've run into girls who think that playing video games is the worst thing one can do.

Why is it that mainly guys play rpgs? Or games for that matter? Is it that guys have more imagination? Do guys find reality less attractÃve than do girls?

Its quite simple why guys play games a lot more than girls, just cuz we(guys) realize the harsh reality around us better than women, we need to take a break and escape in the world of games.

Well, considering the way women are depicted as nothing but T&A bimbos in most video games, can you blame 'em for wanting to avoid such insulting stuff?

In BG2 females are evry bit as good as men and vice versa, that should appeal to women. There is equal pay also

(Sorry...double post) Okay, I'm no feminist by any stretch of the imagination, but I really don't think that guys 'realize the harsh reality around us better than women.' By saying that you are implying that women are too stupid to realize what is going on in the real world. I don't think that you may have meant it that way, but I just don't believe that statement is accurate. Women understand harsh reality better than anyone. As Sable said, 'women are usually depicted as bimbos in these kinds of games' - just look at the artwork. I really think that women are generally judged by their looks, and not by their competency or intelligence, though there ARE many exceptions. Anyway, I could probably go on about this subject, but I know that no one wants to get into this whole femi-nazi garbage (although like I said above, I am not a feminist). Please don't take offense, I'm just stating my opinion.

I'm new to this board though I've played fantasy role-playing on and off for some time. This is my fave so far, though.. I just wish they had better romances for us :/

Not a problem, Silmarie. But I have to wonder if SubTerran's post wasn't meant as a tongue-in-cheek satire of sexism. It's hard to tell (my brother-in-law would have said exactly what SubTerran wrote, and meant it).

I believe that the reason women do not play video games is because of the general roles in society about attitude. In other words, girls are supposed to be the sensitive type, and guys are supposed to act like they don't care about anything. Using this, you can see why girls play less video games than guys. Most video games are based around killing, and killing requires a desensitized attitude to watch or do in this case. I guess that girls almost subconsciously assume that killing things is not something they should do in any form and therefore try to stay away from anything involving that. For example, I know a few girls that play a small amount of video games. I know a couple that own console systems. The thing all of them have in common is the type of games they prefer to play. Most play racing or puzzle games because these involve no killing. Actually, I think there would be a lot of girls playing puzzle games, because those require serious thought, more so than most other games. Girls generally prefer to use their minds to solve problems rather than getting their hands dirty. Anyways, I mean no offense to anyone with this, so please don't take it that way. These are just my thoughts on the subject, and I'd like some response also. Anyone agree/disagree?

My Girlfriend Played Ultima Online (took some coaxing, but I got her playin).
After Ultima She really got into Everquest, but she has no interest in BG2 or CounterStrike (or any other games I play).
I'm getting her that Alice in Wonderland "Hack n Slash" game, I think she's gonna love it (I thought it looked fun too).

Personally, the fantasy RPG genre just appeals to me. But as well as BG/BG2/IWD, I play Unreal Tournament and Quake 3, although I don't claim to be good at them! And I know have a few other female friends who also play them.
Rather than being annoyed at the lack of options for female characters in BG2, I'm actually impressed that they included a male romance at all, considering the ratio of men to women who play the games. At least they are trying to appeal to a female audience as well.

I think (s)he was joking (hence the smile icon for their post).
I think it simply comes down to, that even now, in the majority of households, boys are brought up one way and girls another. That's just the way it is.

is a thinking game. Girls are generally encouraged to
not think at all. Pay attention to the advertisements on TV and in magazines. What is the overall message they send?

I'm a woman, and I enjoy playing games like Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II.
I have to say that most of the attempts by males to explain why more women do not play such games indicate a pronounced ignorance of human nature, femininity, and reality in general. It's a good thing that males stick with games.
