Why would you want to? Those miniture wookies would roast you over an open flame.
That's Endor, on Yavin IV there's plenty of massassi temples, but that's about it, maybe som funny lizards, but nothing big I think

Haha, you're right...I don't know what happened there, too much KOTOR, not enough sleep I guess. Isn't Yavin where Exar Kun died? Maybe there would be a good reason to go there...

The fourth moon of Yavin was supposed to have been razed by the Republic fleet after the defeat of Exar Kun. So there really shouldn't be much of anything there at all... which is very peculiar, given that those Massassi temples somehow survived both the Republic bombardment and 4000 years of time to not only house the Rebels for a time but also (if you read the books) Luke's Jedi academy. It's no wonder the Republic's getting the ground cut out from under them if they can't do something as simple as burn a planet to cinders.

Reread the comic books. It says something about everything on the surface being burnt to cinders from the bombardment, except the temples which survived. I think in some of the books set in the era of the movies it was mentioned too.

I just find it hard to believe that the Republic would slag a planet but not make sure the buildings Exar Kun used would be destroyed. Very sloppy on their part.

Well, as another example, in the game Malak has Dantooine blasted. Not Death Star vs Alderaan blasted to rubble, but obviously enough that you can't go there afterwards. Nothing left to go to. If the planet was destroyed then where were Luke and Yoda in the original movies? Considering we are talking about crude laser turrets on capital ships, not Death Star sized gigalasers, I figure blasting the surface of the planet back to glass or whatever works well enough.
It does however give some ideas on the origins of the dark side cave in the movies and also in a small bit of info in the Thrawn trilogy of novels by Timothy Zahn.
Do they ever actually say if Taris was completely destroyed or just everything on the surface wiped out?

You're getting your planets mixed up. In Empire Strikes Back, Yoda was hiding out on Dagoba, a swampy planet.
Dantooine was mentioned briefly in A New Hope. Lea tells Tarkin that the rebel base is on Dantooine when he is threatening to blow up Alderan. Later on, a grunt tells Tarkin that they've checked out Dantooine and found nothing but a long abandoned base. I've assumed that the base he's referring to is the Jedi enclave.

Reading through this, I just realized how much of a nerd I am... I know what you are talking about.
But anyway! On the Ebon Hawk in the game when you select a destination on the star map-thingy, it says that the coordinates for Yavin actually point at the satellite, but if I remember correctly, it says that Yavin is a *gas planet*. That means that it can't really have a real surface at all!

correct me if i'm wrong, but ain't exar kun's base on one of yavin's moons and not on the planet...

Yes, they were on the fourth moon of Yavin, hence the title of the thread "yavin IV." It's the same place the Rebels are staging from in A New Hope. There was nothing on Yavin, because it is a gas giant, and the pressure within a gas giant would pretty much crush anything that got too deep (which the surface inside the planet would be).

Dantooiene topic.
There's a mod, I'm not sure where, that alows you to go to dantoeeine after the leviethin encounter. It shows that the battle there is still going on and you can save some jedi and pickup some choice weapons new and old.
Also, rumor has it you'll be able to go there in KotOR II.
