So I really am having problems killing this dragon. He's a black I believe by dragon standards using acid attacks. Here's my problem:
My party gets scared every two freakin seconds and runs away and then I will only be in control with so few at a time that I can't do much. Plus my casters don't seem to be doing any damage to him, any notable spells to use? And how do I prevent from people being scared before they actualyl are... I can only cast remove fear so many times.

i had a whole lot of trouble with this battle and the fear also
i kept everyone back away from the dragon initially, those with bows adn crossbows firing, so that they wouldnt get scared, i maxed out my summons and sent them in first(the creatures i summoned right before i set the last summoning post in the all the dragon), then my mage used spells like agnazzazer's scorcher and things like that, when the summons all died, i armed my fighter, ranger, paladin and sent them into the fray, my druid assisted both the mage and the cleric with offensive spells and healing, protection from acid might help, even though i never used it, and everyone was barkskinned
i did this about three times, everyone would die when the dragon was "almost dead" because someone would get scared and id have to refight it, i messed with my formation a little, the creatures i summoned, and defensive spells cast, after a few hours of getting extremely mad at my game i finally won lol
you dont HAVE to kill the Guardian in order to continue with the game, but you get some good experience from the fight i think
anyway i dont know how much help that may offer you but ill check back and help where i can

I thought that spell renders you immune to fear for the duration. So just cast it at the start of the battle and you're good for a while.
By the way, you can use spells like Desintegrate, Finger of Death and Feeblemind on the dragon. Put in spells like Malison and Bane (I think) first, then make sure the dragon is distracted (preferably by a very high AC character) and have your sorcerer cast these spells on him until he fails his save. Kinda cheesy though...

My fighter wore that worg callor you get at the beganing of the game and my paladins aura made him immune to fear so I smacked the dragon with swords 'tel it died.
PS: I cast bull's strength, protection from evil, holy power, draw upon holy might, bless, and prayer before hand.

Mordakeins sword saved the day for me.
It smacks right trough all protections, just move your party on to the steps, and let your caster take care of it.
Easy as that

Aid is also a good spell to cast

Yes, mordy's sword did a great job, but I've found one other spell really useful - Improved Invisibility. Cast that on all your characters, then have your caster use mordy's sword. The guardian goes down and never figures out who's hitting him! I think that was how I brought him down, anyway...

No offense, but unpatched Inproved Invisibility is stupid. When you hit something or cast a spell, you're supposed to become targetable. This isn't the case, so the monster will never see you, which makes this spell uberpowerful and kind of cheesy.

i agree, whats the point of battleling a huge dragon if its just gonna stand there and let you hit it?

One could argue that it looks kind of funny to see a big powerful dragon get himself killed without noticing...
But otherwise, I agree with you.

yes i suppose a huge black dragon with powerful acid attacks being killed without it noticing would be pretty amusing to watch, but geez the poor dragon deserves a fighting chance lol
how do we know this isnt a good dragon? hasnt this happened before with dark elves? hahaha
im just kidding but the invisibility takes all the fun of dragon slayer away from my elvish games

Put the Worg's Collar that you got at the start of the Palisades battle on your main fighter along with your best buffs, and have him wade in. Lower his resistance and pelt him with spells, use bard songs if you have them, summons if you don't, and pot like crazy to keep your health up. He really isn't that hard, I took him down solo with a 10 Cleric/10 Fighter with less than 200 HP.

I can't see how "cheese-tactics", which I find a very amusing title for them, can not be viewed as cheating? I mean, cheating is all well and good but I think if you are offering help to someone concerning a battle it should be constructive tactics and spells rather than ways to trick the game into giving you ridiculous bonuses, despite any comical value that may be tied to it.

The tactics I suggested were legit, but personally I don't like them very much. They will win the battle though:
- Distract dragon with high AC character and cast spells like Feeblemind, Desintegrate and Finger of Death until the dragon falls.
This is not cheating, but I think the tactic is kind of stupid because I don't like casting 7 Feebleminds at a dragon in a row.
- Use Improved Invisibility. It's not my fault this spell is far too powerful, it's not cheating to use it IMO. It's just not fun, because the dragon doesn't even have a chance.

well... that thing is lot better than this in normal....
use bard song glitch and improved haste and summon 6 monsters(those monster have those things too.....
when the dragon appears wham... its dead....only bloody chunks left...

Sorry, Aragorn, I wasn't being clear. I don't think your tactics were cheating at all, it was the whole, "using the bard song glitch" and things like that. And I can't see the point in Improved Invisibility, it just means you don't need any skill to beat the big creatures.

If you installed the 2.01 patch Improved Invisibility is fixed to what it should be. You become half visible and can be attacked at a -4 penalty and your saving throws are given a +4 bonus. No different than what it was in other IE games.
