For disarming trapped doors and chests. Basically, the other half of the lock-pick. Never leave your house/dungeon/cave/stronghold without one.

Yes... thats something i didnt figure out for a while. i was thinking of real world lockpicks, where you use the pick and the probe simotaneously.. so i would use the probe 10 times, then the pick 10 times (my security skill was VERY low...) and then bingo, i disarmed a trap! so how do you use magic to disarm a trap? you have 'open' for the lock, and traps never hurt me because i am a pretty buff dude with crazy resist magic, but i alwasy wondered... would dispell do that?

Buff... Ha!

Personally, I never use probes. Seeing as my guy is even buffer than JesterKing's... :p Everytime I open some trapped thing it's like, "You resisted magic." I sell all my lockpicks and probes. Traps never hurt me. :D

I remember when we first got Morrowind, my brother used to click on trapped doors and run away really fast, because he thought he could escape it. :p

True, mostly I simply use a spell or lockpick to get rid of the lock and then tap space again, regardless if trapped or not. The only noticeable changes are the sound, the nice light show and a short glimpse of one or two effect add-ons to my lower left corner. I just love the Atronach sign combined with good absorb/reflect items.

So, that is what they are for. Gee, I always quick save before opening anything trapped and then just close my eyes and think, "here I go".

Thanks. :)
