First of all.
Again thank to this forum for the warm welcome, and the replies to my last thread.
Now.
is there ANY way to kill that guy,
Arkanis Gath that appears if you try to kill Aran Linvail??

(don't ask me why i'm trying

)
I got him to "Near death" , and then lots of damage, but he just doesn't fall!
Have any of you tried this, and been succesfull? or known someone who has been? etc...
Damn you Arkanis!

He is immortal, at least until the story permits you to kill aran linvail (sided with bodhi, or after the underdark). So you might as well stop trying for now.

Ah! NOW I understand. I returned to visit my old aquaintence, Renal Bloodscalp, in chapter 6, and - err - accidentally attacked him - shame on me, a Lawful Good! The fight was simple, except for this miscellaneous, random thief who just would not die. He and Keldorn's Deva just sat there and fought forever. Actually, I started the fight because it was my first round of HLA's and I wanted to see what a Deva could do

. I looted the bodies (finding an amazing surprise on Renal! Someone told me I should check him out - glad I did) and after a bit, zoned, with the rogue continuing to beat ineffectively on the Deva, and the Deva dishing out useless damage. I thought there was some kind of bug - I see that it's a feature

. He seemed fairly wimpy though unkillable - was that because I was there in Ch.6 instead of earlier?

Apparently, yes...
Just bugs me... i wanna kill that !"##"#ยค!!! Arkanis!
But what did you find on Renal??
I, the good guy, have never killed him myself, as you might have guessed by now...

Minor spoiler:
He drops a pair of Boots of Speed. I don't know of any other non-modded or non-cheat way to get 6 pairs in the complete game (SoA and ToB). It seems that you can buy/loot only 5 pair, otherwise?

it's been counted before.
2 in unmodded SoA
1 early ToB
2 purchasable in ToB
i was sure you could purchase 3 in ToB, however, i was proved wrong. Although ToB Spoiler (highlight to read): there is the grandmaster's armour in ToB for a thief which has the same affect as a pair of boots of speed

Hmmm... Bodhi's first mission was to retrieve a box of wooden stakes and elven holy water, and from the moment you enter the docks Mook yells 'help us, Arkanis!'. Then he appears, and you can kill him and loot him for a decent Axe +3, Short Sword +2 and Studded Leather +2.

Yes ok, but is his name Arkanis, or Arkanis Gath??
Because if it's just plain Arkanis, you can kill him in chapter 6 in Bodhi's lair, if you ask the shadow thieves for help.
He will then show up, and you can then chop him to sushi.. or something like that..
Tho, i don't remember which things he carries then...

It was Arkanis Gath

There are some mods out there that add more boots of speed. I have like 5 now and I have not bought any. Plus I have boots of the fox(not sure if that stacks with grandmaster armor, but I can tell I am gonna have to test it out.

Killing the Immortal Gath is hard but doable. The way to do it is.........
Spoiler
...to look for a weapon that uses an ability point reducer. one example is the tieflings blade , although i forget the name. There are other ability draining weapons around. It works ( or used to work) because Gath's ability points aren't protected unlike his hit points.

Cast timestop and change into a Mindflayer with the shapechange spell. Then intelligence drain him to death.

He gives 1500 xp (you can look this up in Shadow Keeper), so it's only worth killing him for the fun and challenge of it

(besides that it breaks the main plot)
I'm a bit surprised you survived the encounter with him, he is equipped with a "very special" sword that should kill everything on hit.

I know, it's not like I didn't gave myself the spells when I was in chapter two or anything
I don't fight him anymore in chapter two nowadays though -chapter six, maybe...-, since I don't see it as role-play. And I'm a big fan of roleplaying.
And when you got those spells, it's quite easy actually. Simply attack Aran, the guy appears, cast timestop, cast shapechange, and (largely) intelligence drain him during that timestop. You don't need much skill to survive the encounter then.

Yeah okay, hands down, Sytze's way is effective and easy..
And i'm only trying to kill him, simply because he's that powerful...
But the time i got him to the "near death" , and beyond, i used My f/M , with mirror image, stoneskin and so forth... + several seqensers loaded with, all in all, 8 magic missile, and 2 rings og the ram (

) , and several summons to keep him bussy...
But ofcourse, he didn't go down...
But it WAS fun trying tho...

I knew it was possible with high level spells, but it should be quite hard without those

You could try to dexterity drain him to death with Haer'Dalis sword, but I think the effect doesn't last long enough
If I'm not mistaken you don't get xp if you suck an enemies brain out anyway
