BG2 on XP

I have not posted on this forum in a couple years, but I've got a question. I wanted to install the game on my XP, and I've never installed it on this PC. I've tried before, but was also unsuccesful.
Whenever I try to do it, I go to the setup, it tells me it starting it...then it prompts 'are you sure you want to remove this program and all it's componants?' (or something like that). No way to actually get to install.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Sounds like you've got something in your registry that tells BG2 the program's still there. I'd suggest the following:

1) Backup your registry.
2) Use regedit to search for any mention of Baldur or Interplay (assuming you have no other Interplay games running).
3) Delete all those references.
4) Reboot.
5) Try installing. That should work, if you were thorough.

once you've got it installed, you definately want to patch it and use the baldurdash bugfixes. there are some known bugs with XP and BG2

Thanx for your replies- but I'm pretty computer illiterate. How does one search on Regedit?

Never mind that last post- I searched Regedit for anything related BG and deleted it, still no luck.

What did you search on? Did you try Interplay? And did you point it at the very start of our registry, and allow it to keep searching until it said it was finished?

In Regedit I went into Find. Searched for Baldur, Baldur's, Interplay, Bioware. Deleted everything I could find, always after finding something I went to the begining and searched again. And I did indeed keep on searching until it was done.

I'm pretty much done for, ain't I?

Go here for step by step on performing a manual uninstall of either SoA or ToB. It's happened to me before as well :D

Still seems a long time to wait without loading your game, Morlock. :D In any case, be sure to patch it, and check out the long list of mods in the sticky thread.
