I'm still in the initial dungeon beneath the Promenade with a solo sorc. This is my first exp soloing. Despite the over-abundance of self-congratulatory posts on how simple this game is I'm having a VERY hard time. Other than biting the bullet and taking the damage from booby traps how can a sorc disable these traps?

Also, how in hells bells can a level 8 sorc defeat a golem that is immune to magic?

Orion, I'm currently in Chapter 7 with a solo sorcerer. As far as traps go, try using mirror image and stoneskin, because there is no way that you can disable them. Also, to defeat the lesser golems you should use the lvl 4 spell spider spawn

Im only in chapter three with my soloing sorc (lvl 22) but for the lesser clays there is a chans that the spell chromatic orb will instantly kill them.

Minor Globe of Invulnerability works great for absorbing trap damage too. I wouldn't put it in my spell book, but its worth holding a scroll or two for emergencies.

I didn't even bother with the golem's in Irenicus's prison.. I just grabbed the key and ran out of there. Sure, I lost on a bit of experience... but it's not like a soloing player needs every bit.

Pat or Edwin could probably answer this better than me but...here goes.
The way I found to deal with golems was to tie them down with summoned creatures and then peg them from afar with multiple Melfs (as long as its not the feared Clay golem), if you are of high enough level you can summon some help that will put the hurt on golems, or lower their resistance while they are distracted with summoned fodder and cast alot of magic missles.

The best way for a solo sorcerer or mage who's not dual-/multi-classed into a thief to handle traps (and Cloudkill, too, BTW) is Mirror Image. IMO, it's a mistake to leave home without it :D . Also, hugging the walls helps you avoid a lot of the floor traps.
