I decided to start a new game of BG2 , cause it's just so great. I'm currently in Ust Natha and have a reputation of 20 (I'm playing a goody two shoes) and Edmin has decided he isn't happy and deserts me. I've had to reload and he is currently with me but how can I stop him from buggering off again. Will commiting a few atrocities and lowering my reputation do this. I've had him for ages and really leveled him up so I don't want my best spellcaster to leave. Any ideas guys???

Just lower your reputation a bit, and you'll be fine. there is in fact a place in Ust' Natha where you can watch a slave being killed, and then ask for another one to be killed, just to lower you reputation without any hard work.
i think i'ts in the male fighters quarters or maybe on the second floor of the tavern.

Your reputation is too high for evil aligned characters to want to be near you let alone associated with you.
You could:
-Download weimer's ease of use mod from
http://www.weidu.org and install the 'happy' patch portion (towards the end of its installation) that prevents npc's leaving when they're upset at your alignment.
Or...
-Do bad things if you're ok with that to lower your reputation (like murdering the deep gnomes)
Or...
-Take your latest save game and copy it to the mpsave folder and load it up in a multiplayer game on your computer. Export your main character via the character screen (but make sure your main isn't holding any containers such as the bag of holding as these don't get exported) and then choose 'modify characters'. Delete your main character and make him again by importing the character file. This will reset your reputation since that data isn't exported, all quest info and romances remain unaffected. Save the game and copy it back to the 'save' folder and load it in single player...
Or...
-If you're on a PC I believe Shadowkeeper allows you to change your reputation. The equivalent QNBG program on macintosh offers the ability to change your reputation but it does squat.

or, since he's in Ust Natha, he could just do the (SPOILER - highlight to read) slayer change, which causes a rep drop of 2 points each time it's done

The Matter of Dropping of Reputation
Mr. Thrain is impeccably correct - (Spoiler - Slayer change will easily drop 2 reputation points, as well as making you able to open the various doors in the Illithid Dungeon, if you haven't done so yet). Also, I reccomend finding isolated commoners and killing them, if your reputation is high enough to take a hit or two.

Edwin leaves when your rep is above 18...BUT, he doesnt if it's already 19-20 when you invite him in.... SO
Kick him out and invite him back in, you can keep your rep this way I believe... hes gonna complain, but I'm sure you can deal with it
Bleh.. haven't been on in awhile and suddenly all these new threads and members pop up... da** you RO!

that works fine, until you gain/lose a rep point.
let's say you get edwin in at rep. 19 and then gain a rep point, he will leave. if you get him in at rep 20 and lose a point, he will also leave, so it's kinda tricky.

Dosen't Slayer transformation also lower rep (hardly ever used the Slayer tranformation so can't remember)?
That would seem like the easiest way to lower reputation and keep it down.

Haggis is a goody two-shoes, so as long as he stays that way he should have no problem... I do this all the time since I LIKE Edwin's Uber summoning abilities and I have no problem keeping my rep at 20
EDIT: Just be obnoxiously good... don't club baby seals, kick puppies, let children take your money, hug a tree, kill bodhi, irenicus and all of those bad guys in the name of justice!
