acquiring codebook and chimvardium
Any ideas on getting the codebook from the woman in the southclub in balmora(aside from killing her). I can't get the mages guild chick in Vivec to give me the chim...whatever book either. My personality is high, so there must be some other trick to it.

Codebook: I assume you've joined the Fighter's Guild, because you are doing this quest. Now, if you're also in the Thieve's Guild, you can finish all those quests and become Master Thief, and that eliminates a lot of the Fighter's Guild quests, including having to get the codebook. (It explains why you don't have to do them once you finish them. Something about the Fighter's Guild being corrupt or something.) If you don't want to join the Thieve's, I don't see why you couldn't bribe the lady to give it to you, or admire/taunt/intimidate. You say you have a good Personality? Those should all work.
Chimraverradim: (I don't know the name either, that's just the closest thing I remember it being.) Isn't this book locked up in the chest in the lady's closet? I so, just got a lockpick or "open" spell, but you're going to have to unlock level 70 or something. I don't quite remember. I did this quest a long time ago. And, once again, I could be thinking of a totally different quest. Anyways, check in the chest. Isn't it supposed to be in there? (Don't let the lady see you, though, because you will then be expelled from the Mage's Guild.)

well I thought the chimblahblah book was in a chest in her room from previous games, but not now. As for the codebook, I tried bribery and bugmusk and everything...so now she really really likes me, but won't cough up the book. So I'll just continue with Thieve's guild quests like you said for now. I haven't come across a chimwhatsitsname book anyplace else, either.

Dang... I've seen that book in so many places and I've acquired it so many times... I found one in some Dwemer ruins, but that doesn't help you a bit. Have you tried looking in Mehra Milo's Library? (I think that's her name.) I don't know... I can't remember where I've seen them...

Bribery worked for me. You tried it, got her opinion of you up to, say, 85, and tried the topic again--and she still wouldn't give you the book?

I haven't tried Mehra's library because the ordinators attack me. I could probably kill them, but I don't know if it would be a good idea. As for the codebook, I have been back numerous times trying different things to get it. Isn't it weird? Even in a walkthru I read it said just to butter her up and she'll eventually give it to you. Is she essential to the game or should I try killing her?

You can't complete the quest if you're thieves guild without killing/pickpocketing Sottilde.

GameBanshee sells Xandax to make ends meet
Then, as if that was not enough, they decide to get rid of me via sweepstakes as well

I believe that if you talk to the Fighter's Guild main dude in Ald'Ruhn, he'll give you the option of not killing her for the code book, but since I haven't actually gone that route (I killed her), I don't know how that pans out. Try talking to him about "code book" and see what happens
. As for the Chivabgawhatever book, can't help ya there

I was in both the Fighters and Thieves Guild, and got her to offer me the codebook through bribes.
Perhaps the game compares the relative level of advancement between the two guilds in choosing the methods for completing this quest.

Well, I'm still working on the codebook, but something strange happened with the Chimwhatsitsbutt book. I went back to talk to Edwinna and she asked me again if I got the book yet. I clicked on "Chim.." in her dialogue menu and she then said," Oh yes, I'm finished with Chim.. and it wasn't very useful" or something to that effect. Why would she keep prompting for it and then suddenly say she already got it? I think this game just has some glitches like that.
