Guys, I was just wondering, why isn't there an Ulgoth's Beard section in the BG guide on this site. Whats up with that?

Because nobody wants to post it... Great idea: while you're busy playing the area, make a walktrough for both Ulgoth and the lower Durlaq levels, and post it on GB ;)

Ok, I'll do that now. :)

Umm, I'm not gonna clarevoyance the maps though, so there might be grey sections.

You can e-mail walkthrough amendment or additions to GameBanshee. Take a look at a walkthrough section for the e-mail adress. :)

STORY:

Ulgoth’s Beard is north of Baldur’s Gate, it is a small and quite fishing town. However, recently rumours have been growing about strange creatures murdering in the night, an ancient cult raised again and strange goings on in the house of Shandalar, a power full mage. However, perhaps the main reason you have ventured here, is the possibility of a guide to the fabled Durlag’s Tower.

QUESTS “AT-A-GLANCE”:

- Talk with Shandalar (at location 1) for a quest to a magical isle where you must retrieve his cloak (missing cloaks are too often the centre of quests!)

LOCATIONS:

1- SHANDALAR:

A mage who asks you to fulfil a seemingly mundane task of collecting a cloak of his, although to your surprise your teleported to the ICE ISLAND this is a fairly simple mission.

PICK POCKETED: Shalandar is nicely equipped with several magic spells these are; Oliuke’s resilient sphere, Feebleminded, Remove Curse, Emotion, Spirit Armor, Greater Malison and 2 Potions of heroism.

2- INN:

Hurgan Stoneblade: Grandson of a good friend of Durlag’s. Hurgan explains that Durlag was in possession of his Grandfathers knife, however due to the unfortunate events that befell Durlag; he was unable to return the knife. Hurgan requests that you go to the Tower and take back the blade in return Hurgan offers a +1(+4 against giants) war hammer.

PICK POCKETED: If you feel the need to, you can receive your war hammer a little early, by simply stealing it.

Innkeeper: Ulgoth surprisingly has an extremely well equipped innkeeper, the inn offers all 4 ranges of rooms, along with a shop selling a variety of magic spells, including a Cloak of Displacement, Quarter staff +3, Greagan’s Harp, Green stone amulet, along with several potions and wands.

Also the inn contains 2 chests containing some gold and a war hammer +1.

3- IKE:

A rogue by the name of Ike is offering safe passage to Durlag’s Tower in the form of a tour; I would recommend you journey with him to the Tower.

4- HOUSE:

Contains a small amount of gold and a book, be careful as the flaming fist often appear.

5- DELSVIRFTANSON:

A rogue with an extremely peculiar name, he sells 2 ward stones for 500gp, one is a fraud, however the other seems to be authentic, although I do not know of its use. (If anyone can fill us in, please message.)

6- HOUSE:

In chests are 2 books, a Kondar (+3 vs. shape shifters sword) , some gold, a pearl and a cursed oil of speed.

7- DUSHAI:

A gnome who offers you some information, although it is pretty useless.

8- FENRUS:

Another obnoxious noble who offers you a small amount of information on Durlag’s Tower after his recent trip with Ike.

9- HOUSE:

Mendas: A young man from waterdeep who requests you aid him in his discovery of Balduran’s ship, this is a fairly long quest, first you must travel to NE Baldur’s Gate to retrieve the maps to the isle, once this is done Mendas will take you to Werewolf Island. When you return from the isle, you will discover that Mendas is in fact a werewolf himself and will attack you for killing his wife. Mendas is worth around 2000 exp and if a very powerful werewolf, he attacks along with a companion of his.

Loot: 100gold and a chain mail +3

10- SHANDALAR’S HOUSE:

The house contains little, however the basement resembles a dungeon, with a giant red ritual marking on the floor. Once you return from Durlag’s Tower (I believe you must complete the tower) there is a giant wyvern like creature, similar to a griffin, the monster is immune to magic and extremely powerful, the monster attacks in hand to hand, and is very strong doing lots of damage per hit. Oddly the monster has some sort of ability which fires a small ball (It looks similar to a “Harduken” from street fighter) once this ball hits your characters have around 1 minute before they explode and turn into a greater ghast, the monster annoyingly only attacks PC characters, and not summoned monsters.

If anybody has any info on killing this beast, please help, because I am surely stuck with it.

Potion of mirror eyes will make you immune to the monsters curse. (Seems to recall a spell protecting also)
I seem to recall - dispel magic (or maybe it was remove curse) working also if cast on the infected one before he "pops".

Thank you very much!!!

Well, that helps alot, Umm, what happens when you kill him, like with the "ancient cult" etc.. and does Shalandar come back? (been a long time since I got stuck with that, I forgot about it untill a friend of mine reminded me today, heh.)

Ehhh ... it is a very long time ago - but as I recall it, not much is going to happen. I think you will get some thanks for saving the world, but that is about it.

As for Shaldanar(sp?) - once you give him his cloak - I don't recall you seeing him again.

Try and do a search on the forum for advices. I never killed him myself (hey - I play good guys), but I know others have tried.
It is just so long ago - that I can't remember if they were successful or not :D

But try the search function.

I'll get searching now :)

Oh, By the way, did anyone kill Dradeel (Balduran's guide) he is mad, when you attack him he does an ice explosion, doing 70dmg ish and 50 dmg ish (2 sets of damage for it  ) as that happens he gets a globe of invun, then has a kinda of Xzar blue fire sword (I guess he is from the same lame ass tribe) also, when he gets to really low hp (unless you get big damage and kill him first) he explodes in another ring of blue fire. Whats up with these guys.. its mad!

Spoiler:

The dagger you have to retrieve is in fact the Soultaker, where Durlaq trapped the soul of a Tana'Ri a long time ago. If you bring back the dagger the Cultists will bring the Tana'Ri (Aec'Letec) back to life, and you can fight him, although he is insanely difficult ;)

Edit: whoops... you've already told that :) You can remove this post, mods. My apologies

Hmm, Yeah I found out he is killable, but most of my characters are only at level 7, so I think I'll just do the rest of Baldur's Gate and Candlekeep, but meh, he only has a neutral robe.

E-mail to webmasters@gamebanshee.com with a relavent subject (so the e-mail dosen't get drowned in a lot of spam), and point to either this thread, or add the information to the e-mail.

However - please be aware that it will likely take some time before it is added to the site, seeing as updates happen at intevals :)
