Advice on Human Fighter?

Hi:

I played through as a Fire Mage (got some help with build suggestions) and now want to play some parts as a human fighter, probably two-handed, likely joining the templars. Can anyone suggest a good build for me? Do I go straight for 10 STR? Or divide up between STR & END & AGI? What about the rest? And skills (they seem skimpy for a fighter) and perks?

Thanks,

Mike

I'm playing through as a firemage right now, but as to a pure melee fighter I haven't been as successful. I'll try and give some tips as to what has worked. As far as tag skills go I'd probable take Evasion, whatever weapon style you wish to take I've always been partial to Two-handed or Unarmed, and You need some sort of healing spell and Tribal: Protective has a good one. Now about stats you wanna push Str, End, Agi, and to a lesser degree Luc because those critical hits help so much. Traits I've taken that have proven useful are Small Frame and Skilled, but you could certainly take One-Hander if that's your chosen fighting style. I wouldn't recommend the Gifted/Skilled combo however because you need those nonmagic skill points. As with all builds in this game you need to keep a narrow scope if you want to be successful so concentrate primarily on whatever weapon style you have chosen and secondly on Evasion and Magic. I chose magic simply on the basis that healing poitions are simply not as plentiful as they should be for someone who's going toe-to-toe with his enemies. For my two handers I've always gone with Feralkin because they're the most suited to the task and they get certain perks like Brutish Hulk. Other perks I'd chose are Bonus HtH Damage, Damage Resistenace, Die Hard, Dodger, Hide of Scars, More Criticals, Pugilist, Rejuvenation, Retribution, Slayer, Swift Learner, Tough Hide, Weapon Finesse, Weapon Specialization, and Weapon Handling. If you take a loo at the manual you'll see that some of those perks are better suited for certain characters, but all are viable options when building a melee character. Basically choose the perks that will help you deal more damage, help prevent damage, and get you more skill points. It's finding the right combination in the right order that's the trick.

Actually I think I might start up a new brute Feralkin. and since the prefab feralkin brute is unarmed I think I'll go for the same.

Minor Spoliers

Well I just started up a feralkin brawler and basically waltzed through the crossroads, scar ravine, and those caves accessed from scar ravine. Didn't have to restart once, even upon first entering those caves when you're ambushed by 4-5 mongol goblins. My strategy for those types of battles has been kill one, absorb spirit, repeat. Just so you know what I'm playing with I chose Tusks as my racial trait, and my stats are str 8, per 4, end 8, cha 4, int 4, agi 8, luc 5. My other traits are tough hide and silled. And tagged skills are evasion, unarmed, and tribal: protective. I think a end of 9 will give you a slightly higher heal rate but I wasn't really paying attention like I should have been during character creation. I'd say a good plan would be to follow the outline for the male human prefab character but sub find for tribal: protective. If you've played before there's quite the nice hammer available for a rather high price, or if your character is burly enough you can fight for it. Ask and I'll gladly tell you if you don't already know.

EDIT: The endurance of 9 won't get you a higher heal rate, but if you go with my stats you'll have 9 action points and if you choose Small Frame you'll have 10 action points. The dest defense is a good offense.

I heard many people say its sheer impossiblity to play as a melee fighter but i beg to differ. From the beginnig i've been using a melee and now i'm lv24(war has started). I'll explain the advantages later on.
Anyways, here are my suggestions:

Race:Human (no traits but if you want, use good natured/renaissance man)
Strength: 7
Perception:5
Endurance: 7
Charisma: 5
Intelligence: 5
Agility: 8
Luck: 4
Tag skills: Evasion, Two-handed, Divine Favor

Using a melee, you are generally stronger, can withstand battles easier and can last longer. You can basically wander around without fear of being attacked because you can handle situations. You dont need to hide behind companions for protection, whereas a ranged would need to seek help from companions. Also it goes easier on companions, you can help to absorb some damage to prevent companions from dying. So defense and hitpts wise, melee is better; You can even be in a thick of battle and not get hurt easily.
If you're talking bout bows vs swords, swords do more damage and misses less. Furthermore this does not hinder your spell improvements; I prefer to improve divine spells(most self enhancing), but if you want an offensive spell, go for fire. Overall, i think playing as melee is good because you can count on yourself, fight your way through battles and you can just wander about knowing u can fend off attacks.

melee

Oh yea i think the best stat to be good at for this type of fighter is agility. Because you get more Armor class, faster swings and agility affects many skills. So emphasize more on agility... strength basically emphasizes on how much u can carry, how much you do when *unarmed combat*, and affects melee skills as well. Endurance is basically just hitpoints and healing. Always remember to count Agility first!

I think its pretty clear that a melle character will have more HP and defense then any other kind of character otherwise there is something hugely wrong with the build of it.

All i can say is battle in caverns of nostradamus and the end game battle will prove weather or not melle dose something, if you can survive and win those battles then i fully congratulate you.

u should be congratulating me :p
melee characters are very stat based.. with the right atribute distribution i found the game pretty easy.. i didnt not even 1 potion at nostredamus...
u just have to select gifted - skilled. and then place ur atribute points so that when u get all the bonus endurance, perception, int, str, and luck in the game ull end up with 10 agility 10 endurance 10 inteligence and 10 strenght.
5 luck,2 charisma, 3 perception.. pretty much unstopable with those stats and a good 2 handed hammer or axe.. u just make ur way with 40+ hits and way overpowered criticals. i have like all comon items and still found the game pretty easy.. i only had 1 difficulty and it was at the end of the game but nothing a few potions cant fix.. (5), oh be sure to tag 2 handed (or 1 handed.. ur call), evasion or diplomacy, and a divine branch, i chose divine favor for all the boosts in endurance and str u can get, making ur character even tougher to bring down. but the one with mana shield in it is pretty tempting. for all u ppl that havent tried it out : the summon knight templar spell suxs :P he has like 100 or less hp with 100 points in divine favor.

once u do all atribute bonus quests, if u selected gifted as u willl end up with:
10 str
10 endurance
10 inteligence
10 agility
5 perception
2 charisma
5 luck
