Hello. I have a question about Smugglers quest on Solstheim. I found the cavern, I killed all of them but when I talk to Carius he acts like before. I didn't have a companion with me.

Do you mean youd didn't have your companion when you talked to him, or didn't when you killed the smugglers?

are you sure you killed all the smugglers???? there are several side passages, and once you've killed them all. when you go back to the fort it should be <spoiler> in ruins </spoiler> If you are on p.c make sure the companion you choose survives, because due to a bug, if the character doesn't then you won't be able to continue on the quest

But if you are x-box, the you'll be fine. one of the bonuses of xbox :D (cause for mass celebration i think lifeishell  )

edit: oh... and welcome to the forums

I didn't have companion with me when I killed them. What should be in ruins, fort or cave? I'm on pc.

I killed four smugglers, I've searched the whole cave, so I guess that's all. Or is it?

You get a journal update when you kill all the smugglers.

My journal didn't update. How many smugglers are there? I think I made I mistake not taking a companion on a quest with me. Is it possible that's the reason that the game isn't detecting a finished quest?

Did you bring the compnion they tell you to bring? cause i didnt and it wouldnt update my journal, so i grabbed the girl and went back, and my journal updated, so just get her and head on back

The problem is that I chose Saenus but I left him at the fort. So now I can't take Gaea because she's on some errands. If I take Saenus with me the journal wouldn't update. I've just read in a walkthrough that there are five smugglers so I'm one short. But I can't find him, Ive turned the cave inside out. The NPC I've killed: Mus Roscius, Mazorn gro-Gar, Gualtierus Spurius and Sorian. I really don't have a clue where else to look.

have you tried talking to your companion about the cave?? they should say "i think the problems cleared up, you should report to carnius" or something along those lines.

I've loaded one of my previous saved games (a long way back, when I searched for pieces of blade in Mournhold) and went to Soltstheim to play the smugglers quest from the beginning. This time there were five NPC and the journal updated even without companion. So I guess something went wrong before. Is there any way to fix this because I don't want to replay almost all of the Tribunal. At least I've learned to save more often.

if you only killed 4 then there must be another one in there...maybe he's stuck in the roof(its happened before) and if not i think your gonna have to start over :(

Apparently I had a bug so only 4 smugglers appeared in the cave. For anyone else who has the same problem here is what you can do: run TES Construction Set, load master files and from Gameplay menu choose edit scripts. Find and open "smugdeadScript". In the line where is says "smugDead >= 5", change 5 to 4. Save the script and then save new plugin. When you launch Morrowind and launcher window appears press "Data files" and select your new plugin so that the box in front of the plugin is checked. That's it.
