Ranger stronghold

I'm playing as a ranger and I just finished the ranger stronghold quest. Just two questions:
1. Exactly what am I supposed to do as their protector?
2. What do I gain from it? (except for those items in the cabin).

You gain a few extra quests as a result of it, and the Cabin is just a nice spot to store all those items you are lugging around, but don't really need. (In a chest so they are there, if you ever need them again in the future)

If you play the quests right you get the moondog statue. This can summon Cerebrus to your aid, a very usefull ally.

There are three quests (I think).
I. The orc raid. (If you struck a deal with the friendly group of ogres they will help)
II. The Tresure hunt. Some guys are chopping down trees at the ruins. Just find the loot they are looking for and they should leave.
III. The witch Umar returns. Go to the ruins and kill her.
The forrest spirit should give you the moondogstatue now.
