I was thinking about restarting a game as a breton. I started an imperial but i started using magic. So i was thinking that breton is a good creature to use for being a magician/fighter. Any input would help.

Well, if you want to be a "Fighting Mage" I think a Dark Elf would be a good choice. They are well balanced, in my opinion. Imperials are, too. Bretons... They seem to lean more towards magic, but really you can turn anything into whatever you want. Some stats will just be higher than if you had chosen a different race.

Dark elves are the best battle mages around.

Take a Breton with an Apprentice birthsign, IMO. You'll get a good emphasis on magickal skills plus extra magicka for your casting.

Atronach is the best Birthsign for mages, I think. Since you'll be joining the guild, you get free restores anyway.

breton is a good choice, their extended reserve of magicika gives them an edge over the other races, their magicka resistance ices it. dark elf is a decent choice, but breton will be more powerful in the long run.
fighting skills will be a little weak out of the gate, but they close that gap quickly. (and as a result may have a slightly higher max level)
birthsign, i usually go w/ the one (mage iirc) that give 50% more magicka w/o drawbacks.

And how long did you actually play a Breton? I've been playing mine for more than 30 hours, now.

What are the strictly magical advantages that an Imperial has over any other race? I honestly can't think of one.

I think i will start a game as breton. Then ill try the dark elf. I just want something that will get me through the puzzle box without having to try an excessive number of times. I know its sad that i cant even get the puzzle box, but i suck at morrowind even though i love to play it

Take conjuration, heavy armour, and a weapon.

For my battlemage i used a High Elf, not great for resistance or weapnry but u can train up fast and now im kicking ass, with him i can dish out over 2500magical dmg before i run out of mana plus with one hit from my weapon(the frost dagger u get in soltheim) i cna deal another 110 per hit, all in all i think my char is good, and if u really want to be good, before getitng into the mages guild steal the dremora soul gem then remove the price on ur head, only costs about 60 gold, then join up and sell it to the creeper in Caldera for 5000 gold and that will last u untill you can find a more legitamint way of acquiring gold

I'd say that the Breton is a phenomenal choice for you. That 50% Magicka resistance is handy (especially with the Cuirass of the Savior's Hide). Don't sweat the puzzle box - you'll get it eventually. As for the fighting end of the spectrum, I would personally advise you to try the "longblade". Good luck!

Hey gromph i thought i was the only one who thought to take the soul gem before you join the guild. But the only setback is that you should have taken them all. Including that winged twighlight worth 60,000.

I dont take the other because well first off, the scamp is out of gold and you need to wait for a few days before he gets it back and second, once you do ajira's mission to place the false soul gem you can steal all her items without risk of retribution and without paying any fees, then you can also go to sadrith mora and steal from one of the telvanni sorcerers in th town, and also go to tel fyr and steal around 3 grand soul gems, empty, but easily filled and used for all your enchanting needs
