Negate friendly fire?

Hello. Is it possible to negate the dastardly effects of my spellcasters' friendly fire? There are so many wonderful area-effect spells but so little opportunities to use them since there are always some characters around the monsters I'd like to cast spells against. I know with other games there's a way to do this. Any suggestions?

also you could try using spells like web / grease / slow / entagle ect ect that will help pin the enemy in place while you blast away (and your guys are kept out of the aoe)
also keep in mind that some spells are much more party friendly, picking up a few of them may be the way to go.

Grease.
Lube is always a good thing, but it's vital in this game
If you have a few Arcane Casters, have one case Grease, another Web add a third Acid Fog. the result is that you will definitely slow down the oncoming horde enough for at least one Fireball, Wilting or what ever. Grease is the best as it is fast to cast and slows them even if they make a save, only thing is it's only a small area. I'd suggest dropping a Grease and Web when you see them in the distance, then as soon as the spells are away, retreat your whole party a good distance back and start your area spells. then bring your fighters back up infront of the catsers and have them pepper your enemies with missile fire while the spells resolve.
This will also slow them down a little as each hit stuns them slightly. A great spell is Greater Command as it has a big area of effect, casting time of 1 and doesn't hit your team. You can cast it in the middle of melee combat with almost no chance of interuption and it will routinely knock out half or more of thise attacking. Power Words and Symbols are also a good idea. Holy Word/Blasphemy is the same except it can hit your own guys if they have different alignment to the caster and only stuns them for about 1 round. No save against it though.
Another good tactic is to summon a pet and send it out to meet the horde whiile the rest of your party hangs back. While everyone is butchering your Zombie/Skeleton have your casters begin thier Arcane barrage. Gravy for this is Acid Fog. It will slow everyone in it and cause acid damage every round. Once your pet dies you will still have time for 1 more fireball before they get free of the cloud.
