HotU: Weapon Spirit?! (spoiler)

I'm on the Maker's Isle in the ruins and there is this room. When I enter it, my weapons fly away from my hands and go crazy, meaning they attack me. Now the problem is, my weapons are ****ing unbeatable.... I'm using Enserric and the Rapier of the High Road, both with very high enchantments, elemental damage, haste, spell resistance, and true seeing so I can't even use tricks like invis pots or something. Can anybody tell me where the weakness of the weapon spirit might be or how I could defeat it?

Now this was a problem for me too.....
I was a barbarian with a greataxe. I managed to harm the weapon spirit and then I used a dispell magic wand... The weapon spirit died and i got my greataxe and the experience points...

I don't normally have problems, but have you tried equipping a bad weapon instead before enteirng the room?
I don't know if this would work, as I've not tested it.

I usually just beat down the weapon :o :)

One advantage to being a monk - no special properties for my "weapon" itself :) . Seriously though, dispelling the spirit should work just fine. There is even a "dispel magic" ring in another room on that level that you can use, if you are not a caster.

Thx, the dispel thing worked.

@Xandax: Well, on which difficulty do you usually play? And what weapons do you usually use? Cause though you usually may have no problems, you WOULD have problems fighting your 2 main weapons cause they do about 80 damage within 2 seconds and the problem is, that you don't have them while fighting them. The only way to destroy them is to dispel them. Period.

Well - I never dual wield. I go shield+weapon most of the time, sometimes 2 handed.
And with decent equiptment - I've never had many problems destroying it. For instance - the usage of the Greater Belt of the Swordman eleminates the first 20 points of slashing damage. Boots of the Gargoyle can give you stoneskin and so on. Drinking potions to buff up - etc.

I've never dispelled anything when fighting there during my plays through the game.

If the weapons deal 50 damage + elemental damage the Greater Belt of Swordsmanship won't help much. Btw.: You still didn't say which difficulty you play. Whatever. I really don't know what weapons you use, and what difficulty you play, but mine are practically unbeatable. Surely there are ways to defeat them, but without preparing, they'll kill you within seconds. And believe me my character had very nice equipment.

Yeah, that's one glaring weakness of HotU - the ridiculously overpowered weaponry. I think of HotU as being a training tool though, so those weapons really just give you a chance to see what things you like/dislike about various weapon effects before graduating to the "real world" :) .

The difficulty I played on last time was the D&D hardcore option, where damage is normal.

Last time through I used a beefed up Enseric with my fighter/barbarian/weaponmaster (sword/shield type) using Deekin and Valen as henchmen - but it is afterall quite a while ago, so I can't remember my tactics.
My first time through - however was with a sorcerer, and I don't recall him having problems with it either though, likely magic users have it easier due to weaker weapons. However, back then I was only using Deekin as a henchmen (didn't know about 2 henchmen on my first run).

As for the weapon damage. If a weapon does 50-80 and you can remove 20 instantly, then you have already extened your "life" significantly. Then using stoneskin from items and you can live some times longer, barkskin potions to beef up AC, bless to increase to hit bonus, heal potions and so on.
Using Improved expertise nets you another +10 to AC.
Also - I do always carry spare weapons of high enchantments as well to bypass creatures damage reductions, so I had little problem bypassing the spirits soak damage with spare weapon.

The main difference however, could be that I'm prepared, because I've played the game often and know pretty much most of what to expect in given situations, and what abilities to use when and where.
I don't know the order of how you do things, but it could be level differences as well.

But I had much less problems with this spirit then some of the latter encounters, but I've always had less dificulties in HotU then I did in the original NwN. (until "discovering" the glory of Greater Belts ...)
The items and abilities in HotU are overpowered.

As I've said - I never dispelled anything on the spirit ...

First of all, I play at maximum difficulty. In addition, I play without henchmen. Furthermore I also know how to react to things when and where and blablabla as you just said. And yes, as a sorcerer it is MUCH easier to defeat ANY enemy. Also, I don't carry any spare weapons, cause both my weapons had +10 enchantsments or at least almost at that point, so they could bypass just about any damage reduction or whatever. Strangely, I had absoluty no problems in NWN(w/o addons and W/O any greater belt of anything), which I was also soloing at maximum difficulty. I guess everybody has his own problems, and this was mine, though I doubt, as I said, you would have had an easy run with the 2 weapons I had to fight.... I can only repeat: Surely there are ways to beat them, some cheesy, some very few not, but considering how strong the weapons were, I just couldn't image that you're supposed to destroy them with weapon power, so I thought I should ask if there's another way to defeat them(----> dispel). Btw.: This is the only fight in whole HotU I've had problems with. All the other "impossible" enemies, including the draco lich, were absoluty no problem.

Just as a little additive to the original question, don't bother trying to equip a bad weapon. I tried leaving my weapon outside the building, and I still had to fight Enserric when I got to the same place. The only difference was I died quicker trying to fight him with a club......

Well, have you tried just LEAVING the room? I did that and poof, the sword exploded as it followed me to the outside. Then I got like 800 xp. Funny, I tried fighting it but as you guys said, it was unbeatable so I ran away. The amazement was so big as I "defeated" it by doing nothing.

Ahm... guys? I just dispelled it ok? And I did that long ago.... Thx for trying to help but the problem is fixed. I know that leaving the weapon(s) outside or whatever won't help, as it takes your "favorite weapons". Leaving the room won't work cause the door is closed and believe me or not but you're dead before you've bashed it. +10 hasted true seeing magic resistant regenerating elemental damage weapons are real killers..... oh and last but not least, vampiric regeneration :P
Dispel is the only way.

Strange. The Weapon Spirit just took Merkil's Hammer in my case, which was easily beaten down by my Shadowblade.

Yes, I was just trying to help with Xandax's remark that he wasn't sure what happened if you tried leaving your weapon outside. No "Sucking of eggs" was attempted to be taught :-) .
