Multiplayer/single player

I have recently been playing my game as two characters in multiplayer, this has its rewards for instance you can totally customise you character so he uses the best equipment efficently, and you don't have to worry about inner feuding.

Has anyone else experimented with this, what have you found to be it's limitations.

I automatically started a Multiplayer Game as I played BG1 in Multiplayer. I prefer it as you have complete control over your party.
I imported my main character (Fighter) from BG1 and created the rest - Fighter, Fighter/Thief, Cleric, Mage, Sorceror.
I'm aware I'm missing out on some quests and NPC interaction and so will probably play the game through again in Single mode once I complete it.

Just move over a MPsave to a single player save folder and you can have several customised party members in a single player game Image

Yes, I've tried this Idea, it works well. The only other drawback apart from missing out in NPC quests is that if you "drop" someone temporarily they're gone forever. You can't pick up your pre generated character in an inn or something, so what I've done to not miss out on Korgans quests for example is to export my premade character I'm dropping temporarily, recruit the NPC, play out the NPC's quest, drop the NPC and re-import my pre made character !. Bit of a pain but it works.

It might also be possible to complete every stronghold quest by exporting and importing every different character class, haven't tried it yet, it is only an idea.

That's really fine, but everytime I'm trying to reimport a pregenerated character, my computer aborts the game. Where could be my problem?

Corrupt character file? Insufficient memory? Not enough disk space? (Swap file for the game - check this only when the game is running for an actual size of free disk space! - simply ALT-TAB to windows, and check it in the explorer).

Otherwise I don't know...

My character files should be OK. I have no Problem starting a new Game with them. I should have enough memory (256 MB) and I have at least 6 GB free disk space. Another idea?

Have you tried importing a different pre-gen character, it could be software related so try re-installing.

Hey Godfather et. al.,

I'm having the same problem with exporting and importing characters in multiplayer mode. As an example I wanted to get into the planer sphere and so I dropped a druid I had in my party to pick up Valygar. Then I wanted the druid back but when I try to re-import the game crashes.

If anyone has a way to fix this (either make it stop crashing or eliminate the need for NPC's joining) please post! It's really frustrating me Image

I had the same problem. I started a new multiplayer game, created a new "hero" and also imported my "old" charcter who finished BG2 as goodguy

This worked, but I wanted my stuff back, so as soon as the game started I re-imported the "old" hero, the game crashed.

I figuered the character file was corrup or something (you never know with M$). So I made a new char-file and inported that one. This worked, no problem.

Maybe the game just scr_ws up some times writing the character file.

BTW It's very cool, the immunity to weapons +1 and below. Most badguys can't even hit you. Hehehehe.

I once tried importing an entire party of the same character and it did not crash so it is obviously not BG2 related most likely corrupted files.

(in case anyone is wondering it was to defeat Kangaxx, i failed on that attempt and only when i realised you needed a bezerker did i succeed)

Hi Sourced,
Thanks for the tip on clearing this issue up.
I was wondering how do you go about the
process of recreating a char-file from an old
character?

You all plug Shadow keeper a hell of a lot, do you all work for them or something Image

Just an idea ...

Make yourself a the sort of multiplayer party you prefer. Then write down those stats / abilities of your characters. Start singleplayer & take the NPC's with you that you want. Then just edit those NPC stats to match those of your 'own' party ... ? with eg. Shadowkeeper or something similar.

The game makes a save-game just before the game ends, I just finished the game again and used those files. They worked.

Kinda weird nou I think of it.

How does one get these kick backs, do you have to apply or do they just offer them to people.

Hi guyz..I found a way to the export/import bug...

I myself had the same problem...Here's what I did after trying for awile.

1.Export your character in multiplayer which you seem to cannot import back in
2.Start a new game ( singleplayer ) and import that character ( it should work )
3.Then in the single player game, export your character again.
4.The exported character should now be able to be imported into multiplayer

BTW, I dun recall exactly, but I think I lost all my items...not sure though...just try to keep or give all your items to someone else first just in CASE ( you never know Image )

Good luck trying

When you start a Single Player game, all items on the character are removed as the game begins. That's why you were without items after importing this exported imported exported character.
