Two-Handed Swords

Does anyone really prefer using two handed swords?
I ask because I really hate losing the AC bonus because I can no longer carry a shield.
I know the swords do more damage, but do people not care about losing the AC bonus?

the holy svenger nuff said..its the most powerfull 2hander in the game..and with -8 ac my paladin dont need more
witht he rigth items a pally can gain 80% magic resitance after the game is over...can any monks beat this?
then there is the silver vorpal sword and lilacor and wave..stuff them to npcs that have those proficiencies..and if the main char uses bows or xbows..so he would naturally have a 2hander as backup..as a singlehander would be a waste..when you cant wear a shield with a bow

If you're afraid of losing AC, either use a powerful armor (such as the Ankheg armor or Red Dragon armor), high dexterity (which is always a good thing to have) or another character with high AC to use as a tank.

I love two handed weapons, the war blade is really powerful and Lucian has allready mentioned the holy avenger which is very nice, of course no use if you are without a paladin in your party as only they can use it.
Slight spoiler:

Also worth mentioning is the talking sword that you get in the sewers below the copper coronet, not the most powerful weapon in the game at only 1d10+2 but it is by far the funniest, with comments such as "who's your daddy" and "lets see what this one looks like inside" as you hack people up, It cracks me up every time.
the sword also protects from charm and confusion which is worth giving up a shield for.

Two-handed swords are very well implemented in this game. Most of them are very powerful and they also grant your characters with certain resistances and immunities.
Also the two-handed weapon skill gives your character extra attacks per round (making them having No of attacks close to single handed swords) and improves weapon speed (very useful since most two-handed swords are "slow" weapons)
And Lilarcor is a very funny weapon.I liked one comment : "Do you feel lucky, punk?"
(Like "dirty" Harry!)

Two handed skill does not give extra attacks, it only makes the attacks happen faster ie. sooner. That said, at least Carsomyr is definitely worth using and maybe the Silver Sword as well.
A little off topic, but since it was asked...of course Monks can beat Paladins in the magic resistance game
Basically, they're the same excep the monk gets 63% to the 50% the paladin gets from Carsomyr...and the monk also gets to use the Sword of Balduran. I'm not sure what items would be used to get a Paladin to 80% since I max out at 70% with the items I'm aware of.
Level 21 Monk: Base 63%
Kaligun's Amulet: 10%
Sword of Balduran: 10%
Ring of Gaxx: 10%
Total: 93%
(83% without the sword)
Just for fun...
Cloak of Balduran (Imported): 25%
Extra Ring of Gaxx (Imported): 10%
Total: 128%
(Not to mention 2hp/3rnd regeneration, insane armor class, etc, etc.)

Another point in favor of Two Handed swords is that the most powerful two, Lilarcor and Carsomyr, can be easily retrieved, even in the beginning of the game.
Lilarcor is much better than a +2 yapping sword, it's +3 (allowing you to hit all of the monsters in the game other than Improved Mantle) and it grants Mind Shield, very useful when giving it to Minsc and going to fight Vampires/Mind Flayers.
Regarding Minsc. When fighting Vampires with my three Druids I common got weird battles:
Evil, meet sword! SWORD, MEET.... (domination) I will slay you, protagonist! (charm) Go for the eyes, Boo, go for the... (domination) Feel the wrath of my ranger brain, protagonist! (dispel)
And so it goes on and on, until I run out of spells and start running away from a mad, dual weilding Minsc with crappy saving throws.

When i wrote about two handed weapon skill i meant and two handed sword skill, because it is obvious you should get both if you want to use them effectively. With points spent on these two categories two handed swords perform very close to one handed ones.
When Lucian said that his paladin had 80% magic resistance,he was referring at the very end of the game. One of the rewards of following the "good" path grants your character with 10% extra magic resistance.
And i wonder how high magic resistance Viconia can get since she has 65% natural magic resistance (well, she is a drow that's why)

LOL.
Yes, this is a good reason for Minsc to use Lilacor against certain enemies...against vampires Mace of Disruption +2 and Shield of Harmony would be MUCH better though

Actually, when fighting vampires I sent Minsc on solo tours with the great Illuminated Mace of Disruption and some sort of a neat sword, and when they charmed him I just waited for the charm to wear off.
