I just got a call last night stating I could pick up my deposit on Baldur's gate III because it has been cancelled. Is this true???

No idea, but I would also appreciate it if someone who does know said something.

?
You can't even pre-order the game yet as far as I know. Is this a joke or something?

not a joke
No - I put $5 down at a game stop to reserve my copy when it came - which I was told was January 1, 2005. The only thing I can think of is that perhaps that this is in regard to interplay no longer producing the game.

How could it possibly be that the game was set to come out in January when as far as we all know Atari did not even choose a developer for this game. I don't think the game was even in production or at most in very early production phase.

I was then given bad info by the store - this must have been the interplay version that was cancelled, prior to their losing the D&D license. Whew...

No Interplay version. They lost the rights to make D&D games.

I sincerely doubt its availible to preorder at the moment, as they're only starting general concept work right now. The game is still at least 2 years off, by my guess.
The only info anyone has on the game came from that PC Gamer article, I think. That's probably why you got your money back; they have no info on the game, so they assumed it was cancelled.

As Nightmare said, there's no chance that the game will be out in January. Whatever date Game Stop had was false, or more likely, they never had one.

hmm...how many hours of gameplay are you guys expecting should BG3 comes out 2 years later?

Guys, why are you getting so worked up over a title that's just been in development for less than 5 months--if that--and probably has another 2 years in its cycle before going gold? Sheesh; don't get so worked up. It's only a game, and not even a game with any hard detail one can discuss at this point. It's more of a vaporgame. Give it a year. See if BG3 is still being made. If it is, start thinking about it, then. In the meantime, play what you like, make friends, go out for walks, get to know family better, read books, listen to music, take up creative hobbies, go on long travels...

You know, fable, you can try and convince yourself that you are not hurting for this game, but we see through your facade. You're sweating and moaning like a junkie who has missed their last three hits.
(Don't blame you, mate, I am too.)

LOL! I know you're joking, but you may want to read some of my other posts here over the last four years. I laughed at all the claims made in advance of Fable, and said it would have whatever features it would have, and probably not many of those.

I proved right. I didn't much care for the dumbing down of KotoR, and I have yet to hear anything about any RPG titles "under wraps" that "excite" me one bit. Besides--as I've repeatedly said on these boards before--
it's only a game. If that, in the current instance. In any case, don't give it power over you.

@fable
Yep, I was joking.

And I agree with you - mostly. Baldur's Gate 3, if done right (and admittedly that's not guaranteed) would have me missing work and playing for days straight, with the wife yelling at me in the background (unless I bought her a copy as well).
Not to get philosophical or anything (this probably isn't the forum for it, too) but I really do get hooked on some games, or the concepts of some games. My expectations for KotOR were ridiculously low (console - bah!) but my expectations for Freelancer were waaay to high.
Whilst I haven't been here for four years, do you strike me as a very level and dependable chap. I, on the other hand, am a gibbering monkey on crack when it comes to a good CRPG.
Here's hoping BG3 lives up to expectations. Or even, unbelievably, exceeds them.

(But I won't hold my breath.)
Cheers,
TGHO

oh
I hear it had already cancelled.
The Black Island is dismissed.
Who will make it?
The Obsidian?

Asure, you're repeating rumors here about it being cancelled as though you know it's accurate, and then you go into another thread here and talk about what will happen in the upcoming game. Please stop that. If you have factual content, put it here, or stop feeding misinformation. Thanks.

Baldurs Gate 3 was available for pre-order on sites like Amazon.com, but this was the old Black Isle version that got canceled. That version I thought was supposed to be released in December 2003, though. I could be wrong? Anyway, after word got around that it was available for preorder after cancellation, sites like ebgames and amazon.com removed it from their sites at Vindeti’s (spelling?) request.
It made me sad seeing it on these sites, but it was never meant to be, at least that version.

Hopefully if BG3 is currently in production (no confirmation as yet), then whoever is doing it will do it right!
I'm sort of glad that the Interplay version got cancelled, as they had produced nothing but drek over the past year of operation, and everyone involved with the original BG series had long gone.

I doubt this game would go in production withouth huge announcements.
So currently - I doubt it is being developped - although once SW:KotOR 2 is released and Obsidiant frees up some ressources, it might be a (good) bet on a possible project for them.
ANybody know what Trojkas current project is?

Sorry.
I knew wrong.
