Timescales in BGII

A quick question for the forum....

Does anyone else think the timescales for the game are to long compared to the ammount of time taken to complete the game?

The first time I played the game through I had completed all the major quests and was ready to enter Sudansslar (how do you spell it?) in about 85 days. By this time no matter how much I flirted with Jaheria I still wasn't getting any Image , and Lord Roenall hadn't attacked De'Arnise Hold.

Second time round I had done everything by 65 days so I thought I'd rest and see what happened with the Roenall thing. So after 30 days in various inns I finally got to kill Roenall (what a let down).

Does anyone else think these so-called random events take to long to occur?

I waited to complete the D'arnise stronghold before i left for the underdark which meant my game took nearly twice as long Image

It seems to me that it is not random, it is like the random meetings you get in Athkalta there are only a few that are actually random mostly they are there for a reason ie. Harper quest, maybe they were trying to get away from the random nature of BG.

Is there a time cap for doing quests, or can you have a quest in your "wait-modus" for a long time.

The only one's with a timescale are mentioned specifically in your journal...

I.e.

Underdark - Meet with Phaere in 3 days in the tavern.

Anomen - Go to the order of the radiant heart within one day.

Basically if it doesn't say "do this by X time" there is no deadline.
